๐จ๐ 80 YEARS OF SERVICE ๐๐จ
The Towamensing Township Volunteer Fire Company is proud to recognize 80 years of dedicated service to our community.
We would like to thank all past and current members who have helped make this organization what it is today. Your dedication, sacrifice, and commitment have built a legacy that continues to serve Towamensing Township with pride.
๐ Our History ๐
On April 11th, 1946, the first meeting of the Towamensing Volunteer Fire Company was held at the Friendly Inn in Trachsville, PA, with 25 soon to be members present. During that meeting, the first officers were elected: Elwood Beers (President), Kenneth Smith (Vice President), Alton Smith (Recording Secretary), Ralph Strohl (Financial Secretary), and Norman Beers (Treasurer). A Board of Directors was also formed to help guide the company in its earliest days, and a collection of $16.40 officially opened the treasury.
On October 25th, 1946, a motion was made to purchase fire equipment, leading to the companyโs first apparatus, a truck ordered from the Howe Fire Apparatus Company of Anderson, Indiana for $7,650, delivered in July of 1947.
In October 1947, a small blacksmith shop was purchased from Robert Beers, who also donated the land where it stood the same location where the fire company still operates today. Growth continued with the installation of the first fire siren in 1948, and the purchase of a second apparatus on March 21st, 1949. A four-wheel-drive truck built for brush and field fires, marking the beginning of brush truck operations.
From these humble beginnings to today, our mission has remained the same: to protect and serve our community whenever the call comes in.
๐ Thank you to everyone who has supported the Towamensing Township Volunteer Fire Company over the past 80 years.
๐ Hereโs to honoring our past and continuing to serve our community into the future.
