Yesterday, 5/19/26 at 4:42 PM, the Palmer Fire Department was dispatched to assist the Monson Fire Department with a structure fire at 430 Lower Hampden Road. Chief 162 and Tower 161 responded to the scene to provide mutual aid assistance.

Crews operated for several hours performing interior fire attack operations, establishing a water supply, and conducting aerial operations including ventilation and aerial master stream operations. These operations were carried out during what has been, so far, the hottest day of the year, creating extremely challenging working conditions for all responders on scene.

Yesterday, at approximately 11:27 a.m. on May 19, 2026, the Palmer Fire Department responded to a two-vehicle motor vehicle crash in the area of Thorndike Street and Forest Hills Drive.

Responding units included Chief 162, Ambulance 163, Engine 161, and Engine 162. Ambulance 163 arrived on scene in less than two minutes and immediately began triage, reporting multiple patients with two patients trapped inside a vehicle.

Due to the severity of injuries and complexity of the incident, a second Advanced Life Support ambulance was requested from the Monson Fire Department, along with Life Flight from Worcester.

Palmer Fire crews rapidly stabilized and extricated the patients. One patient was transported by Ambulance 163 to Baystate Medical Center. A second patient was transported by Monson Fire to the helicopter landing zone at Baystate Wing Hospital, where Life Flight transported patient to Baystate Medical Center.

The Palmer Fire Department would like to thank the Monson Fire Department for their mutual aid assistance and continued partnership during emergency incidents.

Tonight, members of the Palmer Fire Department participated in department training focused on Autism Awareness.

The training provided firefighters with valuable information on recognizing and understanding autism spectrum disorder, along with techniques for improving communication and interactions during emergency situations.

Continuing education and specialized training like this help ensure we are better prepared to serve every member of our community with compassion, understanding, and professionalism.
