Today, the Palmer Fire Department welcomed a local Palmer homeschool group to the fire station for a special Pre-K Fire & Life Safety Education class!
Captain Gauthier and Firefighter Schuelke worked with the children on several important safety topics, including:
- Match and Lighter Safety
– Stop, Drop and Roll
– Crawl Low Under Smoke
– Smoke Alarms
– Escape Plans
– Firefighter as a Community Helper
– Fire and Emergency Drills
– Staying Away from Hot Things in the Home
At this age, our goal is to introduce simple, memorable safety lessons that children can recognize and practice at home while also helping them become comfortable with firefighters and their equipment.
Tonight is a great opportunity to talk about fire safety as a family. Make sure everyone knows what their smoke alarms sound like, identify two ways out when possible, choose a family meeting place outside, and practice what to do if the smoke alarm sounds.
Thank you to the families who joined us at the station today! We had a great time sharing these important lessons with some of the youngest members of our community.
