Cardboard City Mat-Su

Cardboard City Mat-Su The best Mat-Su Valley event to raise homelessness awareness and FPMS shelter guest services. June 22-23, 2020 at the Alaska State Fairgrounds!

Family Promise works to raise awareness of homelessness in the Valley in order to serve more people by hosting an annual event called Cardboard City. Participants experience homelessness firsthand by spending a night in cardboard boxes and eating only soup and bread. Funds for Family Promise are made via pledges raised by the participants in order to use a box. This year, Cardboard City will be held at 5:30 p.m. on July 19-20 at the Alaska State Fairgrounds, and will involve competitions between individual participants and between businesses to raise the most money in pledges and to create the quaintest cardboard casa. There will also be fantastic live music. Register online at www.familypromisematsu.org or call at 357-6160 to be part of a resplendent event and have a smashing good time. About Family Promise Mat-Su:
You may be under the impression that homelessness is an illness from which our beautiful state could never suffer, but Family Promise Mat-Su would like you to know that homelessness is everywhere and could happen to just about anyone. Family Promise is the only nonprofit organization in the valley dedicated to sheltering homeless families and making sure they get right back on their once-fallen feet. They’ve been at it for seven years and certainly know how it’s done since they’ve provided over 9,500 shelter nights since they’ve opened their doors.
