An emergency homeless shelter opens today in central Palmdale and will operate through March.
The shelter will be open 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. daily at the Antelope Valley YouthBuild facility, 38626 Ninth St. East, the same location used as a shelter last winter. People will not be allowed to walk up to the site, but must go to pickup locations.
A van will pick up people daily in Palmdale at:
4:30 p.m. at the parking lot at the southeast corner of 20th Street East and Palmdale Boulevard.
5 p.m. at 10th Street East and Avenue Q-12.
5:45 p.m. on the south side of Palmdale Boulevard west of Third Street East.
6:15 p.m. at Sierra Highway and Avenue Q-7.

Advancing Communities Together (parent organization of AV YouthBuild) and its subsidiary, Elevated 2 Act, is hosting a “FREE” USA Football’s First Down Football Clinic for youth, boys and girls, 6 to 13 years old, on July 21st, 2019 at Desert Sands Park (39117 3rd St E, Palmdale, CA) from 10 am-1 pm. USA Football’s First Down Program introduces kids to football as a game before it’s a sport. They’ll learn the basics like passing, catching and handoffs while being active. Playing football helps kids to grow up active, confident, responsible, respectful, resilient and develop interpersonal skills. Please bring your kids as we introduce them to the sport of football. Yesterday, dba celebrated and honored 30 young people overcome their obstacles by not only earning their HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA but also earning their MC3 CERTIFICATIONS and LEADERSHIP SKILLS that will take them beyond their wildest dreams! Three young people earned Scholarships to support them in their PSE journey; Martha Magana, Antonio Padilla, and Niyah Paige! Please help me congratulate all the graduates for demonstrating and !!!
