FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION BIOSOLIDS RULE MAKING ACTIVITIES FOR CHAPTER 62-640, FAC

New Announcement! The department published a Notice of Public Meeting for Chapter 62-640, F.A.C., on March 1, 2021. The department will present the proposed amendments to the public on Biosolids. The meeting will be held virtually by webinar on May 27, 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.

National EMS Week is from May 16 - 22, 2021.

The 2021 EMS Week theme: "THIS IS EMS: Caring for Our Communities." This theme is particularly meaningful now, to remind people that every day we are still there to respond, support, and care for the needs of our communities.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3349 (Palatka) recognized several Putnam County emergency services employees and a sheriff’s corrections deputy at the Tuesday, May 11, 2021, regular Putnam County Board of County Commissioner's meeting. Recognized were the following:

Putnam County Emergency Services
• Battalion Chief of the Year Tina Hitchcock
• Paramedic/Firefighter of the Year Charles Pinkston
• EMT/Firefighter of the Year Hank Sherlock

Putnam County Sheriff’s Office
• Corrections Deputy of the Year Deputy Brian Smith

We thank the VFW for continuing to recognize our brave men and women and thank all of our public safety and law enforcement officials for the job they do on a daily basis serving and protecting our citizens and this community.

At their May 11, 2021, regular meeting, the Putnam County Board of County Commissioners declared May 16-23, 2021, as National Public Works Week. Public Works professionals focus on infrastructure, facilities and services that are of vital importance to sustainable and resilient communities and to the public health, high quality of life and well-being of the people. These infrastructure, facilities and services could not be provided without the dedicated efforts of Public Works professionals who are engineers, managers and employees at all levels of government and the private sector. They are responsible for rebuilding, improving and protecting our nation's transportation, water supply, water treatment and solid waste systems, public buildings, and other structures and facilities essential for our citizens. This marks the 61st annual National Public Works Week sponsored by the American Public Works Association.

IMPORTANT NOTICE FROM PUTNAM COUNTY PUBLIC WORKS

Silver Lake Drive at Geck Road will be closed starting Wed., May 12 from 7:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. in order to install head walls. No thru traffic will be permitted. Please use the posted detour routes.

The Bardin Bridge is now open for traffic in accordance with the weight limitations set for the bridge. We appreciate the community's patience while the bridge was closed during this necessary construction effort.

The General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC) of Palatka was at Hitchcock’s Market in East Palatka on Saturday, May 1 bagging groceries to raise funds for firefighter particulate hoods. These hoods are worn under the fire helmet over the head, ears and neck to protect the firefighters from heat and dangerous carcinogens that are present in modern day house fires. According to the GFWC, the protective hoods cost around $125 each and they will continue to raise funds for the hoods for Putnam County Fire Rescue. If you would like to donate towards the purchase of hoods, please call Elizabeth van Rensburg at (904) 377-5044.
