GENERAL INFORMATION
The majority of Putnam County Departments are governed by a five-member commission Board, all of who are elected for four year terms. Each member represents a district but is elected County wide. This structure gives citizens a voice in government and provides a means of influencing decisions and policies that shape the equality of life for residents. District 1 – Commissioner

The Putnam County Library System’s Summer Youth Reading Program is officially underway, and June is packed with fun, free activities for children and families across all library branches!

From Storytimes, Book Bingo, and Read-Ins to Sidewalk Chalk, Rock Painting, Ancient Games, Kids Yoga, Dino Discos, Teen Sewing, and much more, there’s something for every young reader and explorer.

🌟 Programs are FREE and open to everyone—library card or not!

Now is the time to get ready before a storm is on the way. Start by putting together an emergency kit with essentials like:

• A 3-day supply of non-perishable food and water
• First-aid kit and prescription medications
• Flashlights, extra batteries, and a battery-powered radio
• Hygiene and sanitation items
• Waterproof container for important documents and cash
• Items for pets and babies, if needed
• Cooler and ice packs
• A family evacuation plan in case of separation

Putnam Aquatics is offering swim lessons for children of all skill levels this summer at its temporary location while renovations continue at the county pool.

• Session 2: June 15 – June 26

🏊‍♀️ Yesterday, Putnam County proudly accepted a $2,500 donation from the Azalea City Kiwanis Club to sponsor swim lessons for local children this summer.

Learning to swim is one of the most important safety skills a child can have in Florida, and this generous donation will help more families gain access to lifesaving swim instruction.

This summer’s swim lesson sessions will be held at the temporary Putnam Aquatics location at Calvary Baptist Church, located at 1414 Bronson Street in Palatka, while renovations continue at the county pool.

📅 Session Dates:
• Session 1: June 1 – June 12
• Session 2: June 15 – June 26
• Session 3: July 6 – July 17
• Session 4: July 20 – July 31 - Lessons are 50% off due to the Azalea City Kiwanis Club sponsorship.

Holiday Trash Collection – Memorial Day, Monday, May 25

The Central Landfill in Palatka, Huntington Solid Waste & Recycling Center in Crescent City, Interlachen Solid Waste & Recycling Center in Interlachen, and the Sanitation Administration Office will be closed on May 25 and then resume normal hours on May 26.

The Waste Pro office and operations will be closed on May 25.
The remainder of the week’s services will be on a one-day delay:
Monday collections will occur Tuesday
Tuesday collection will occur Wednesday
Wednesday collection will occur Thursday
Thursday collections will occur Friday
Friday collections will occur Saturday

Looking for something fun to do this week? Putnam County Libraries have a full lineup of free programs for all ages from May 18–22.

Children can enjoy storytimes, Books for BINGO and hands-on activities, while teens and adults can take part in sewing, quilting, watercolor art, scrapbooking, relaxing coloring sessions and more.

Programs will be held at the Putnam County Library in Palatka, as well as the Bostwick, Crescent City, Interlachen and Melrose branches.

Expecting a baby or have an infant under one year old? 👶

The Putnam County World’s Greatest Baby Shower will take place tomorrow, Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Family Life Center in Palatka.

Hosted by community partners, this free, tobacco-free event will feature local exhibitors, learning sessions, emergency vehicles, vendor raffles, and more. Fathers are encouraged to attend, and raffles will be held during each learning session.
