That's a wrap on another Youth Advisory Council cohort! 🎉

For our final meeting, YAC members got to see the fruits of their labor from our Community Budget Project. After spending previous meetings researching local organizations, debating community needs, and deciding how to allocate their community budget, students had the opportunity to present the funds to the organizations they selected.

Bricks of Hope in Palatine, which provides LEGO sets to children during hospital stays.

Team ENOUGH in Palatine, a youth-led initiative focused on gun violence prevention.

Clearbrook, which supports children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Give N Kind in Buffalo Grove, which connects donated goods with nonprofits and communities that need them.

People Helping People in Palatine, which provides food, clothing, hygiene products, and other essentials to neighbors in need.

We’re so proud of our YAC members for the effort and compassion they put into this project. Thank you to every student who participated, and a special thank you to the organizations who joined us for our final meeting!

It was a pleasure to join the Lake Zurich Area Chamber of Commerce’s Government Affairs Committee to provide a legislative update and discuss issues affecting our local business community.

We had a productive conversation about legislation addressing ghost tickets and ticket bots, workforce development initiatives, and grant opportunities for small businesses. I also shared information about the resources and assistance available through our district office.

Thank you to the LZACC for bringing together local businesses, community leaders, and public officials. Our office looks forward to continuing this partnership and supporting businesses throughout the 51st District.

A Special thank you to AARP and AgeGuide for presenting and sharing their expertise with our community. We also would like to give a shout-out to the Illinois Tollway and ICASH for joining us and tabling at the event to connect residents with additional resources and services!

Congratulations to the Village of North Barrington on breaking ground on the Route 59 Stormwater Drainage Project! After years of planning and collaboration, this major infrastructure project will help alleviate flooding near Haverton Way and Route 59, benefiting 38 properties and six roads.

This multi-jurisdictional project required extensive coordination between local, state, county and federal partners, as well as homeowners who generously provided easements on their properties. It will also incorporate several environmental efforts such as wetland restoration, native plantings, invasive species management, and long-term environmental monitoring to minimize impacts on the surrounding ecosystem.

Congratulations to the Village President Eleanor Sweet McDonnell, the Village of North Barrington, and everyone who helped move this project from an idea to today’s groundbreaking!
