The Big Sandy Regional Detention Center would like to clarify misinformation regarding inmate mugshots and charges that appear on social media.

Our facility does not post inmate mugshots, booking photos, or criminal charges to social media pages or third-party websites. Various social media pages and online networks automatically retrieve publicly available booking information from our website and publish it independently. These pages are not affiliated with or operated by the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center.

Additionally, the charges displayed on our website are listed using the Arrest Code exactly as it appears on the citation or other official charging document at the time of booking. These entries are not written or interpreted by detention center staff, and they should not be considered a final disposition of any criminal case. Charges may be amended, reduced, dismissed, or otherwise changed as a case progresses through the court system.

We encourage the public to obtain information from official sources and to remember that all individuals are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

We would like to thank the Kentucky Association of Counties (KACO) for providing the VR WRAP training system for our staff. This training system allows employees to be placed into realistic, scenario-based situations in a controlled environment, helping them strengthen their decision-making, communication, and response skills.

The hands-on experience and real-life simulations provide valuable training opportunities that better prepare staff for situations they may encounter while working in corrections. Training like this is critical in helping ensure the safety of our staff, inmates, and community.

We would like to thank the Magoffin County High School Criminal Justice students for visiting and taking a tour of our facility. During their visit, they heard powerful stories from current inmates who spoke openly about the choices that led them to their current situation and encouraged the students to make better decisions moving forward.

The students also learned about how the jail system operates, from the booking process all the way through the release process.

In our opinion, days like today are critical in helping shape the minds of the next generation. Whether it inspires future careers in corrections or helps prevent young people from making the same mistakes that led others down the wrong path, opportunities like this can have a lasting impact.

The Big Sandy Regional Detention Center has female Correctional Officer positions open in Johnson, Lawrence, Magoffin, Martin, and Floyd Counties. An applicant must have lived in the county for six months or longer and be 21 years or older to apply. Some benefits provided are health insurance, vacation, sick , personal time accrual and a yearly salary of $33,032.00 for new officers. We are deeply saddened by the loss of one of our own, Lt. Clay Osborne, who has gone home to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It was an honor to serve alongside you through the tough times and the good times. You were always a light to those around you.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.

Rest easy, brother. We’ll hold the line from here.
