We are honored to share this recent Ohio Channel feature highlighting the impact of our Phone Pal Program in Lake County, Ohio.

The story shines a light on an issue affecting many older adults, loneliness and social isolation, and the meaningful difference a simple connection can make. For many older adults, regular conversations can become much more than a phone call; they can become a lifeline, creating friendship, connection, and a sense of belonging. 💙

A special thank you to Terry, one of our dedicated Phone Pal volunteers, for joining the discussion in the studio, and to Kathleen, a Phone Pal participant, for sharing her experience by phone. Their stories help demonstrate the power of human connection and the difference one caring person can make in another’s life.

We also want to recognize the well-deserved kudos shared for Family Pride of Northeast Ohio and the important work they do to support older adults in Lake County. It takes a community of organizations, volunteers, and caring individuals working together to ensure older adults feel connected, supported, and valued.

Please take a moment to watch The Ohio Channel link below and learn more about how connection can change lives.

This morning, the Board of Commissioners Lake County, Ohio proudly recognized Older Americans Month and the 2026 theme, “Champion Your Health,” alongside the Western Reserve Area Agency on Aging and the agencies of the Lake County Senior Services Levy Coalition.

We were honored to be joined by representatives from Family Pride of Northeast Ohio, Lifeline, Inc., Lake County Council on Aging, Laketran, the Fairport Senior Center, The Lake County Children and Adult Services Division, Project Hope for the Homeless - Ecumenical Shelter Network of Lake County, Catholic Charities Lake County, the Lake County Free Clinic, and the Senior Citizens Advisory Panel. These organizations work every day to help older adults across Lake County remain healthy, safe, connected, and independent.

The Commissioners also recognized Bob Selan, a dedicated volunteer with the Lake County Volunteer Network/RSVP program, for his outstanding service to older adults in our community. Bob’s time, skills, and commitment continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of so many Lake County residents.

A special thank you to everyone who attended and helped celebrate the incredible impact older adults, volunteers, and service providers have throughout Lake County.

Our Phone Pal Program is growing fast… and so is our waiting list. We have older adults in Lake County ready and excited to connect. All they’re missing is a friendly voice!

Who’s waiting on the other end?
✨ A proud veteran with incredible stories to share
🐾 An animal lover who could talk pets all day
🎨 A creative artist who misses chatting about their work
🇮🇹 Someone who grew up in Little Italy and loves reminiscing
🦜 A cockatoo owner (yes, really!) with lots of personality
🐠 A former reef aquarium hobbyist
🎸 A guitar player who’d love to talk music

Becoming a Phone Pal is simple:
✔️ Just a phone call twice a week
✔️ Open to volunteers age 55+
✔️ Background check required; we cover the cost

This small commitment makes a huge impact. A simple conversation can brighten someone’s entire week — and yours too.
If you’ve got a little time and a kind heart, we’d love to have you join us. To learn more or get started, visit https://www.lakecountyohio.gov/senior-services/268-2/phone-pal-program/ or call us at 440-350-5360.
