I’m Sergeant First Class Mark Hutton with the Ohio Army National Guard located in Painesville, Ohio, and the recruiter for your area. I’m hoping to see if you would be interested in talking with me about the National Guard and what we have to offer in way of educational benefits, adventure, training, and service to the community and country for you after you graduate.
I know that sometimes not knowing what you’re doing or where you’re going after graduation can be a little unsettling. You may be wondering what you’ll do or how you’ll pay for college. You might even have questions about how you are going to accomplish all of the goals you have set for yourself. The National Guard can prepare your future by paying for your education, developing you as a leader, providing you with advanced job training, and earning the respect of being a soldier.
The Ohio Army National Guard provides people with a PART-TIME job (39 DAYS A YEAR), new skills, experience, adventure, and civilian education!
HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS ARE ABLE TO JOIN AND ATTEND TRAINING THIS SUMMER!: As a high school junior, you can join now, receive pay and preparation for basic training this summer! By the time you graduate you can have nearly a year and a half of military service completed!
SERVICE TO COMMUNITY AND COUNTRY: The National Guard is the largest Reserve force of the military and you have the ability to serve locally in Northeast Ohio. We are the only military component with a dual mission. We are called upon to help our State in times of emergency (floods, hurricanes, tornados) and our Country at times when our national security is at risk. NO OTHER BRANCH has this kind of responsibility.
PAY: Signing bonuses of are available! As a new soldier in the National Guard, you would earn about $200.00 for your weekend drills, $1600.00 a month at basic and job training, and about $760.00 for your 2 week annual training(after basic training). On average, you work 39 days a year and of course your pay increases through promotion and time in service! You will start earning monthly pay even before you ship to basic training!
EDUCATION: NO OTHER BRANCH OF MILITARY HAS BETTER EDUCATIONAL BENEFITS. Every person who enlists for 6 years in the Ohio Army National Guard receives a 100% tuition scholarship to any public college and many technical schools in Ohio. This is a true FULL RIDE SCHOLARSHIP. If you go to a private college, the Ohio Army National Guard will pay up to the average 100% tuition cost of a public school. This is a National Guard benefit that no other branch offers! You may enlist for 3 years to receive a 2 year scholarship! Ask about the ROTC Program!
MONTGOMERY GI BILL: As a soldier in the Guard, you will also receive the GI Bill of $397 per month (tax free) while you’re in college. You can collect this and the National Guard Scholarship simultaneously.
JOB SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: The National Guard offers jobs in many areas that you can use in your civilian life. After all, every employer wants to hire someone who knows how to do the job! There are many combat and support positions available to choose from. Here are just a few, Military Police, Intelligence Analyst, Engineering, Infantry, Armor, Artillery, Healthcare Specialist, Mechanics, Special Forces, Communications, Human Resources, Transportation Specialists, Aviation Specialties, Automated Logistics, and NBC (Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Specialists).
RSP- Recruit Sustainment Program: RSP prepares newly enlisted soldiers into the Army National Guard for US Army Basic Training. This mandatory training (one weekend a month) prepares them for the rigors of a high stress environment and increases their success rate at their basic training sites. These new soldiers are receiving military pay and Federal Law ensures their civilian employers give them time off work to full fill their military obligation. We are the ONLY branch of the US Military that has this Pre-Basic Training and it is our duty to ensure that you are trained and prepared!
