The City of Page is proud to announce Markeisia Nez, Page Public Library Circulation Assistant, as the October “Going the Extra Mile” employee of the month. Markeisia has served in this position for approximately 3.5 years.
Markeisia was nominated by Reference Librarian Mikalah Lee, who said, “I would like to recommend Markeisia Nez for the G.E.M. Award. She is someone who consistently goes above and beyond, often in ways that may seem small at first but make a meaningful difference to our library and the people we serve. One example that truly stands out is the care she has put into our Seed Library. She has taken ownership of keeping it organized, stocked, and up to date, but she didn’t stop there. She took some of the seeds to plant in our hydroponic garden systems and has been growing and caring for the plants so that she can eventually offer them to our patrons.
What makes her especially deserving of this award is the way she treats our patrons. We regularly hear positive feedback about how helpful and kind she is and how much she does to assist people who come into the library. She takes the time to help, and our patrons notice that. She is also someone who is always willing to learn something new and step in wherever she is needed. She brings a willingness to help, a positive attitude, and genuine care for our community to everything she does. She may not always seek recognition for the extra things she does, but that is exactly why I believe she deserves it. She represents what it truly means to go the extra mile, and I am proud to nominate her for the G.E.M. Award.”
Debbie Winlock, Community Services Director, also nominated Markeisia. Debbie said, “I am proud to nominate Markeisia for the GEM Award. Markeisia is truly one of those employees who is always willing to step up, help wherever she is needed, and go the extra mile for both our patrons and her coworkers.
When we needed someone to take responsibility for our hydroponics system, Markeisia volunteered without hesitation. She quickly learned how the system works and has taken great pride in caring for it. She is now growing beautiful flowers and herbs, and what started as something new has become another way she contributes to making our library a welcoming and engaging place.
Markeisia also serves on our Safety Committee, showing her willingness to contribute beyond her regular job responsibilities. Whenever we ask for help, whether it is covering when we are short-staffed, working additional hours, or helping with something outside of her normal duties, she is willing to step in.
What stands out most about Markeisia is the way she treats our patrons. She genuinely cares about helping people. Patrons enjoy interacting with her, and we have received many positive comments about her kindness and excellent customer service. She takes the time to listen, find solutions, and make sure people leave feeling that they were taken care of.
Markeisia is dependable, caring, hardworking, and a true team player. She does not simply do what is required—she looks for ways to help and is willing to take on new challenges. Her positive attitude and commitment to serving others make a difference in our library every day.
Markeisia truly represents what it means to be a GEM, and I believe she is very deserving of this recognition.”
