The Paducah Fire Department joined us this week to provide hands-on education in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)!

We are incredibly grateful for their partnership and support. Their team plays a vital role in assisting us on calls and delivering Basic Life Support (BLS) during multiple or high-demand emergencies.

Strong collaboration like this helps ensure the best possible care for our community. Thank you for all that you do!

The Paducah Fire Department would like to give a big thank you to our instructor Tana Detwiler for our yearly CPR Certification tonight. We often work hand in hand with our EMS department and are thankful for their service in our community. Fire department members present left to right

Thankful for our team and their commitment to our EMS service. Watching each of them perform a job that they are very passionate about is the rewarding part of my job. They bring more than your traditional EMS, our staff has experience in labor and delivery, pediatric emergency care, nursing, respiratory therapy, rescue operations, and firefighting training. That’s what makes a team dynamic special! —- Tana

I’ve always loved watching a good EMT–Paramedic team in action. There’s something about the way it flows — no script, no set choreography, just two people who know their roles, trust each other, and somehow end up in the right place at the right time.

It’s not just about one person doing “basic” care and the other doing “advanced” care. Sure, the training levels are different, but the heart of it? That’s equal. The medic might be managing an airway or pushing meds, while the EMT is getting vitals, calming a patient’s spouse, or making sure the stretcher is ready for a smooth move. Neither job works as well without the other.

When it’s really clicking, you don’t even have to talk much. A quick glance, a nod, and you just know what your partner needs. You can be halfway through setting up an airway and suddenly the right piece of equipment is in your hand — because your partner saw you reach for it before you did. That’s the magic.

The best part of this dynamic is how it protects the patient. If one of you is deep in a skill, the other has eyes on the big picture — spotting changes, adjusting care, and making sure nothing gets missed. And for the patient? They’re getting two layers of care: working the clinical side & making sure they feel seen and safe.

When you find a partner you click with like that, it’s gold. It’s more than just sharing a shift — it’s sharing the weight, the wins, the “holy crap, did that just happen?” moments. It’s knowing someone will have your back when the call gets messy, and you’ll have theirs.

That’s why the EMT–Paramedic dynamic works so well. It’s not about the patch. It’s about the partnership. And when you have that, you’re unstoppable.
