👏 KEEP ON, KEEPIN ON!!💪

Midterm inspection went well for our Pacifica Recruits. They have reached the halfway point of the South Bay Regional Basic Police Academy, and we are so incredibly proud of their hard work and progress.

We look forward to their graduation in a few months and having them officially join the Pacifica Police Department as Police Officers.

Send them your well wishes, Pacifica-they’re almost at the finish line!!🏁 ✨🥳

🌊 BEACH SAFETY ALERT | FRIDAY–MONDAY ⚠️

A long-period southerly swell from Hurricane Karina and Hurricane Marie will impact area beaches through the holiday weekend.

🏄 What to expect:
• Swell energy from both storms may periodically combine
• Breaking waves up to 10 feet
• High risk of sneaker waves
• Strong rip and longshore currents
• South- and west-facing beaches will be most exposed

🚨 Stay safe:
• Inexperienced swimmers should stay out of the water
• Never turn your back on the ocean
• Keep a safe distance from the surf, especially near rocks, jetties and steep beaches
• Don’t underestimate the ocean—even when the weather looks calm

☀️ Nice holiday-weekend weather may bring more people to the coast, increasing exposure to dangerous surf conditions.

Friday–Monday | Confidence: HIGH

🌊 Enjoy the beach—but respect the ocean. Stay alert. Stay back. Stay safe.

🚨 The Pacifica Police Department will conduct a driving under the influence (DUI) Checkpoint this Friday, September 4, 2026, from 8:00 PM to 2:00 AM at an undisclosed location.

DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints are to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road.

“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” Pacifica PD Sergeant Meyerhoff said. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improve traffic safety.”

The Pacifica Police Department reminds the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. While medicinal and recreational ma*****na are legal, driving under the influence of ma*****na is illegal.

Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
