The first Pacifica Age Friendly Initiative COMMUNITY MEETING of 2026 will be happening tomorrow… Tuesday, March 24th at the Pacifica Community Center from 2:00pm to 4:00pm! Lots of cool things to update you on.

We are making progress on making Pacifica more livable than it already is. Come to this meeting to find out what’s going on.

Pacifica's Age Friendly Community Coalition will be hosting a meeting on Tuesday afternoon at the Pacifica Community Center from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. We've lined up some interesting speakers on new affordable housing services, our successful collaboration with Village of the Coastside, the expanding classes and activities at the Community Center plus updates on our age friendly initiative to share and discuss with attendees. Everyone is welcome.

Just wanted to bring this to the attention of those of you that have an interest in this topic or a personal connection to a person with dementia. Advances are beginning to move forward with screening, treatment and care for people with dementia as well as innovative support services for their caregivers. This FREE presentation at Mills Peninsula Hospital in Burlingame next week on 2/18 from 6pm to 7:30pm will provide a great snapshot of the 'state of the art" for all of that and spotlight resources right here in the Bay Area.

The free monthly Coastside Magazine this month features a 5-page story (pp 12 > 15) about one of the livability projects of Pacifica's Age Friendly Community Coalition. With the help of several Pacificans who have formed a very effective steering committee, we have been working with the leadership group of the Village of the Coastside (VOTC) and Villages of the Coastside to expand VOTC's social network membership program to include any Pacifica resident who are 55 years or older who would like to join their group. Members are invited to monthly gatherings, events and presentations in various locations in Pacifica as well as south to Half Moon Bay. The Pacifica Age Friendly Community Coalition has been focusing this year on extending the membership range of the Village of the Coastside (VOTC) to include Pacifica residents age 55 plus who want to join their Village Network. A group of Pacificans have formed a steering committee to help VOTC spread the word that Pacifica residents are now welcome to join the Village of the Coastside (VOTC).

If you live in Pacifica and are 55 years of age or more, you are welcome to join VOTC. Membership dues are $20/month for an individual and $25/month for a household. (For people on a tight budget, this monyhly fee can be reduced.)

If you want to join us, please send an email to [email protected] to request a membership application. If you need help filling it out, please reach out to VOTC staff and they'll be glad to assist you.

This Wednesday, December 3rd from 2pm to 4pm, the Pacifica Age Friendly Community Coalition invites you to a FREE screening of Surfing for Life at the Pacifica Community Center. SURFING FOR LIFE is a vibrant and award-winning one-hour documentary about inspiring well-spent lives from the unique perspective of older surfers. Narrated by Beau Bridges, it profiles ten legendary surfers who model healthy aging by staying active and engaged into their 7th, 8th and 9th decades. Through interviews, contemporary day-in-the-life footage, and a wealth of rare archival material, the film provides an eloquent and powerful antidote to the negative images of aging presented in America's youth-obsessed culture. We will have a panel of local older surfers at this screening to discuss the movie afterwards as well as the film's Director, David L. Brown.
