The Mills County Conservation Board manages over 1,700 acres between 9 sites. Located in the Loess Hills of southwestern Iowa, these sites vary from wildlife management areas, forests, lakes, green spaces and general parks. Included in those areas is a 25 mile stretch of the Wabash Trace Nature Trail, a multi-use recreational trail; and the recently created 906 acre Glenwood Archaeological State Preserve.

Spring is baby season! We get lots of calls about how you can help when you have encountered a young animal.

Caring for injured wildlife is done by caring, trained and licensed individuals called Wildlife Rehabilitators. They are the only people that can legally work with injured wildlife and they do not all work with all kinds of wildlife.

There are also restrictions on the types of animals they can take in so please be understanding about this! If you find a wild animal you think might be injured or sick:

Do not touch or move the wildlife! If it is a baby, it may not be injured or orphaned, and moving them may cause problems rather than solving them.
Call the Iowa DNR at 515-725-8200, they can help you find appropriate care for the animal.

Mills County does not have a licensed wildlife rehabilitaion group or individual.
