Happy ! How did you do?
The marine mammals of Monterey Bay are special and play important roles in the ocean’s health, serving as predators and prey. 🦦🦭 As cute and cuddly as they may appear, marine mammals are protected by law, and approaching or touching them can cause unpredictable reactions.
In addition, H5N1 bird flu has been confirmed in seabirds and northern elephant seal pups. While the risk to the general public remains very low and there is no evidence of seal‑to‑human transmission, please avoid contact with sick or dead wildlife, including dead birds, to limit the potential transmission of bird flu to humans.
If you see a marine mammal that looks sick, injured, or abandoned, remember to keep your distance! ✋Please call the Marine Mammal Center at (415) 289-7325 to ensure that professional, trained responders can assess the situation and take action.📞
