Heavy rain is expected to move into New York City this evening and continue overnight into Wednesday morning. A Flood Watch is in effect, with 1.5 to 4 inches of rain expected, and isolated areas could receive up to 5 inches. Flash flooding may develop quickly, especially in low lying areas, basement apartments, and locations with poor drainage.

If you live in a basement apartment or another location that has flooded before, make a plan now.

This evening Chief DeLuca and members of Lindenwood VAC joined our community members, elected officials and various community organizations in a candlelight vigil honoring our fallen hero and neighbor, Staff Sergeant Angel Rampersaud who was killed earlier this month in an attack on a U.S. military base in Jordan.

Chief DeLuca presented the family with a floral arrangement beautifully done by Heavenly Florist, and expressed our deepest condolences on behalf of Lindenwood VAC.

We were truly honored to have participated in this extremely moving event to honor a life of service, dedication, and sacrifice that will never be forgotten.

Lindenwood VAC and the entire Ozone Park community stands united to supporting her loved ones and honoring her memory.

We like to thank our elected community leaders and local business who helped make this vigil possible..

The Officers and Members of Lindenwood VAC are saddened to learn that one of our community residents, lost her life serving our nation at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan.

According to a statement released by the US Department of War, "Sgt. Angel S. Rampersad, 28, of Ozone Park, New York, is believed to have been killed in action on July 17, 2026, during an enemy attack at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, Jordan. The incident is under investigation. U.S. Central Command previously announced this Soldier as missing. The Soldier status was updated to a Duty Status–Whereabouts Unknown and is believed to be deceased.

Sgt. Rampersad was assigned to 1st Battalion, 57th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 52nd Air Defense Artillery Brigade, 10th Army Air & Missile Defense Command, Ansbach, Germany."

Lindenwood VAC extends our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends, as well as her fellow service members who knew and are grieving for Sergeant Rampersad.

May her memory be a blessing and her sacrifice never be forgotten.

We are sadden to learn of the passing of actor Randolph Mantooth. Some outside EMS may know of him, but within the EMS community Mr. Mantooth is widely known. He was best known for playing Paramedic / Firefighter John Gage on the 1970's television show EMERGENCY! (1972-1977)

At the time the television show premiered, modern emergency pre-hospital care was in its infancy in the United States. Providing life saving treatment in the field at the scenes of accidents and medical emergencies, things we are so accustomed to now, was unheard of at the time.

EMERGENCY! introduced the concept emergency pre-hospital care into the living rooms of millions of Americans. Many individuals were inspired (including this author) to become Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics soley because of this series. In fact, the series motivated many communities and municipalities to adopt and create a dedicated modernized EMS system.

Well past the shows television run, Mr. Mantooth and his screen partner Kevin Tighe who played Paramedic-Firefighter Roy DeSoto on the series were very active in the EMS community. Mr Mantooth spoke regularly at Firefighter and EMS conferences and symposia across the United States . He was a spokesperson for both the International Association of Firefighters [IAFF] and the International Association of Fire Chiefs [IAFC] for firefighter health and safety, and honored over the years with numerous awards and recognitions.

In honor of his contributions to the EMS community as a whole, we will display our mourning badge as our profile picture, as he is considered by many EMS agencies and Fire Departments as a fellow brother.

We wish you all a very Happy and Safe, 250th anniversary of our Independence Day.

To make this holiday safe remember within NYC fireworks are illegal. But if you must... Never hold a firework in your hand while lighting. Never approach a firework that did not ignite without soaking it in water prior. Have a hose, fire extinguisher, nearby.
In addition, be responsible with alcohol consumption. NEVER drink and drive!

With the foretasted weather make sure you stay hydrated with water and wear plenty of sunblock.

Lastly, take a moment to remember the brave men and women of our armed forces from the moment of our Revolution to the present who have laid down their lives in defense of this, our nation... the United States of America!
