🥎 TOURNAMENT UPDATE 🥎

As we continue getting closer to the first annual Stars and Shields Classic Softball Tournament, we wanted to share a few updates!

Unfortunately, the Ozark Police Department will not be able to participate in this year’s tournament due to scheduling and staffing needs. We completely understand the demands that come with public safety service and appreciate their support of the event. We are hopeful this tournament becomes an annual tradition and would love to see them involved next year!

That being said — the tournament is STILL ON and we are excited for a great day of softball, community involvement, and friendly competition supporting a great cause.

📍 Eagle Stadium – Ozark
📅 June 20, 2026
⏰ First pitch at 9:00 AM

🔥 Participating Agencies:
• Ozark Fire & Rescue
• Ozark EMS
• Dale County Sheriff’s Office

Now for something we are thinking about adding…

🥎 HOMERUN DERBY 🥎

We are considering opening up a public homerun derby during the event and want to see who would be interested!

• Open to the public
• $5 donation for 5 swings
• All proceeds benefiting the Ozark Police Department Animal Shelter

Now before anyone says it… yes, we know Eagle Stadium is an absolute monster of a field 😅

To keep things fair and fun for everyone, we would have a designated homerun line set up in the outfield for derby participants.

Would this be something you’d participate in or want to see at the tournament? Let us know below! 👇

We appreciate all the support already shown for this event and cannot wait to see everyone come together for a fun day supporting a great cause and our local animal shelter.

Today, we remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country.

Memorial Day is more than a long weekend — it is a time to reflect on the courage, dedication, and selflessness of those who gave everything for the freedoms we enjoy each day.

From all of us at Ozark Fire and Rescue, we extend our deepest gratitude to our fallen heroes and their families. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Please stay safe this Memorial Day.

A big thank you to the team at Twice Daily for stopping by Ozark Fire & Rescue today with donuts and pastries for our crews! The treats were definitely appreciated and enjoyed by everyone at the station.

Twice Daily, which will also feature White Bison Coffee, officially opens next Wednesday, May 27, at the corner of Highway 231 and Andrews Avenue. From the preview we got today, we have a feeling it’s going to be a very popular spot in our community.

We’re always excited to see new businesses coming to Ozark and investing in our city. Be sure to stop by and welcome them when they open next week!

Thank you again to Twice Daily for the thoughtful visit and support of our department.

Ozark Fire & Rescue has received multiple calls from concerned citizens and media outlets regarding reports circulating about a firefighter MAYDAY at a fire on US 231 and E. Andrews Avenue.

We want to reassure our community that this incident does NOT involve Ozark Fire & Rescue, Ozark EMS, or any local public safety agency in our area to our knowledge. At this time, it does not appear to be connected to our region at all.

We understand hearing the words “firefighter MAYDAY” is alarming, especially for those who support and care deeply about our first responders. We truly appreciate the concern shown by our community and those reaching out to check on our personnel.

As always, we encourage everyone to rely on verified information from official sources and avoid spreading unconfirmed reports.

Last Friday night, we had the honor of watching two of our own officially become certified firefighters for Ozark Fire & Rescue.

After completing 11 demanding weeks of recruit school training, Brendon Herrington and Reeves Gulledge proudly walked across the stage, were pinned by Chief Jason Maertens, recited the firefighter oath, and officially joined the ranks of the OFD as certified firefighters.

Recruit school is no easy task. Over the course of 11 weeks, they were pushed physically and mentally while learning the skills, discipline, teamwork, and dedication required to serve their community as firefighters. They rose to every challenge placed in front of them, and we could not be more proud of what they accomplished.

We would also like to specially recognize Firefighter Brendon Herrington for receiving the Victoria A. Bristow EMS Award during recruit school — an outstanding accomplishment that reflects his hard work, dedication, and commitment to serving others.

A sincere thank you also goes out to Dothan Fire Department for providing the training and instruction throughout recruit school. Partnerships like these play an important role in preparing the next generation of firefighters.

Brendon and Reeves — congratulations. We are incredibly proud of both of you and even more proud to officially welcome you to the Ozark Fire & Rescue family. 🚒
