You’ll never have another Chief like Papa Nick.

It just doesn’t seem real that you have passed away. Station 32 will never be the same. I have a feeling everyone there will always be looking over their shoulders wondering when you are going to walk through those doors.

A few of the neighborhood kids took a break from virtual learning and stopped by to see The Professional Fire Fighters of Station 21. When they arrived, the Fire Fighters were washing the apparatus. They offered the kids an even trade, “we wash your bike if you wash our Ambulance” - they gladly accepted. Your Fire Fighters love interacting with the children and community that they serve!

The Coronavirus has made its way to our county. Know the facts and protect yourself. Stay home, there is no reason to call 911 unless you are experiencing an actual medical emergency.

Today we remember Bridgette P. Wilson, who passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on this day three years ago. Bridgette served as an Administrative Assistant II for over 29 years with our Department. She was a loyal and dedicated employee who often went above and beyond to ensure our Department mission never fails.

Bridgette was also one of the first members of Local 1619’s Peer Support Team and the only civilian that has ever been on the team. She played a vital role in the development and success of the program. She is greatly missed.

In honor of Black History Month, we would like to recognize our very own Fire Chief, Tiffany Green. Chief Green is the first female Fire Chief in the history of Prince George’s County, and only the ninth African American female Chief in US history.

Chief Green first started her successful journey in the fire department 24 years ago as a volunteer in Oxon Hill. Four years later, she was hired by the Prince George’s County Fire Department where she has served in many ranks and roles. She hopes her hard work, dedication and success can inspire young women to follow in her footsteps.

When asked about her vision as Chief, she said

“So my vision for the department is to prevent the call. So the goal is that you don’t have to call 911. And we use our risk reduction strategies to educate the public on things they should be doing. Changing your smoke detectors, making sure batteries are in working order, making sure you have carbon monoxide detectors. One of our other initiatives is “Close before you Doze,” and that basically says to close your door before you go to bed. In case of a fire, it will prevent the fire spread from coming into the bedroom and increase your chances of survival, so that’s our two biggest ones. We also do our “Hands only CPR” where we teach all the residents in the community how to do CPR and we link them to our Pulse Point App, which is an app on your phone that will alert you if there is CPR needed in your area. So those are our top three things.”
