The City of Oxford is actively engaged with the Alabama Department of Transportation to determine a long-range plan to improve traffic flow on Leon Smith Parkway.

On February 24, 2026, the Oxford City Council authorized Mayor Alton Craft to enter into an agreement with ALDOT for a corridor study along the parkway from Choccolocco Creek to just north of SR-4 (US-78).

The city of Oxford is proud to support Oxford Health Systems and this important initiative to expand access to lifesaving resources in our community.

Oxford Health Systems, through direct support from the City of Oxford, is introducing a new AED community placement program to equip the community with resources that will increase positive outcomes in emergencies.

Through this program, 21 AEDs previously used in city buildings are available for donation to nonprofit organizations, faith-based groups, and community organizations located in Oxford.

Notice: Building permit fee changes effective July 1, 2026

The city of Oxford Building Department would like to inform residents and contractors that permit fees will change beginning July 1, 2026.

Permit fees: all jobs costing(total cost-material & labor)$500 or more will be a $3.75 plus $10 issuance fee, $501-$1000 a fee of $7.50 plus a $10 issuance fee, and $1001.00 to an unlimited amount and additional $7.50 per thousand plus a $10 issuance fee on residential properties. Commercial jobs are the same plus add $1.00 per thousand for the state fee. City, County, state buildings, and religious organizations are $1.00

All new home permits and swimming pool permits will be based on the total cost of the job.

Demolition permits will be $40 plus a $10 issuance fee.

Permits will expire 1 year from the issue date. If an extension is needed, a request in writing must be given to the City Council 30 days before the permit expires.
