City of Oxford, Georgia

City of Oxford, Georgia The City of Oxford was founded in 1839 and is the birthplace of Emory University. Welcome to Oxford! We are a quiet community, 35 miles from Atlanta.

A City of History, Community, Education, and Trees

Oxford, chartered in 1839, was established by the Methodist Episcopal Church as the birthplace of Emory College. Today, the City of Oxford is home to Oxford College, Emory's historic campus, where twenty-five percent of Emory undergraduates choose to spend their freshmen and sophomore years in a liberal arts intensive program before completing th

eir Emory degrees on the Atlanta Research campus. We delight in our history, our forests, trails, and wide boulevards, our homes, churches, and schools. We're moving into the future with hope, enjoying our new City Hall, new maintenance facility, and plans to establish a mixed-use new Town Center District for community activities.

As of today, June 9th, the shelter is still at full capacity! The prices for adoption have been lowered to $50 for dogs and $40 for cats. Please save a life and adopt if you have the capability!

The shelter is CRITICALLY FULL. We need the community to step up! We desperately need adoptions (we have several sponsored dogs), rescue, and owner reclaims! Are we “no kill”? Only with the help of our community and rescue partners! Please help us save lives today. We are in an impossible situation with nearly 10 dogs entering the shelter yesterday. We open at 11am. To help us avoid heartbreaking decisions, please consider coming to adopt, or step up to foster through one of our rescue partners.
