Granville County Animal has verified a rabies-positive fox found on Veazey Road in Butner on September 9, 2026.

Residents are urged to ensure that their pets are up to date on their rabies vaccines to comply with NC Carolina General Statute 130A-185 https://www.ncleg.net/enactedlegislation/statutes/html/bysection/chapter_130a/gs_130a-185.html

A free rabies vaccine clinic will be held at the Animal Shelter on Saturday, September 19 from 9 AM to 11 AM.

Vaccines are also administered at the shelter Tuesday through Friday from 12 PM to 4:30 PM at a cost of $10 per vaccine.

The Animal Shelter is located at 515 New Commerce Drive, Oxford.

Granville County Library System is inviting every resident in Granville County to sign up for a library card and visit their library in September for Library Card Sign Up Month.

In addition to an extra push for new library accounts, the library system has begun a dedicated community outreach service for those who cannot easily visit libraries in person. These efforts will increase access and awareness of library services, even for those who do not live close to one of the four branches. Services at pop-up libraries include library account registration or updates, checking out books for all ages, tech assistance, and information about library services.

Upcoming pop-up library events include:
• September 5: Oxford Armory Farmer’s Market (105 West Spring Street, Oxford)
• September 9: ACIM Food Bank (634 Roxboro Road, Oxford)
• September 12: Hot Sauce Festival (Downtown Oxford)
• September 14: Stem Town Hall (102 West Tally Ho Road, Stem)

Most non-emergency county facilities will be closed on Monday, September 7, in observance of the Labor Day Holiday.

Normal hours of operation will resume on Tuesday, September 8.

Additional county services information:
- All Granville County solid waste convenience sites and the Oxford landfill will operate on their normal schedule on Saturday, September 5, and will be closed September 6 through September 7.
- All Granville County Library System branches will be closed September 5 through September 7.
- The Granville County Animal Shelter will be open to the public on September 5 and closed September 6 through September 7. In case of emergency, please call 911.

Granville County’s commitment to strong and carefully planned financial management recently received a vote of confidence from Moody’s and Standard and Poor’s (S&P) during their recent borrower ratings update.

In short, this means that the county is seen as a high-quality low-risk stable borrower by independent ratings agencies who set the industry standard. Moody’s recognized Granville County’s history of sound financial management and savings strategy, conservative fiscal year budgeting, and commitment to building and maintaining a strong fund-balance. The rating also considers the strength of the local economy, which outpaces the rest of the United States as a whole.

“Granville County has worked hard to save money and spend our resident’s tax dollars wisely,” said Zelodis Jay, Chair of the Granville County Board of Commissioners. “On behalf of the Board of Commissioners, I want to thank our staff for their hard work and careful financial planning. We try to do as much as we can for our residents while living within our means and we are proud to know that Granville County will be seen as a safe government to lend money to whenever we need to take on a large project.”

Maintaining a strong rating from agencies like Moody’s and S&P can help lower borrowing costs when the county needs to fund a major capital project, several of which are on the horizon. The county’s accrued savings, known as fund balance, will supplement favorable borrowing conditions to achieve major expansions and relocations to enhance county services.
