Spring is the perfect time to give your septic system a little TLC. Routine maintenance and pumping can help prevent costly repairs, protect your property, and keep our local waterways clean.

Too much fertilizer doesn’t stay on your lawn — it can wash into storm drains, rivers, and streams during rainstorms. Excess nutrients in waterways can lead to algae blooms and poor water quality.

Use fertilizer responsibly by applying only what you need and following label instructions carefully.

We won't leaf you hanging: Flower pots and trays (aka flats) do NOT go in the recycling. Some garden centers may take them back, but you'll need to ask before you donate. Splitting plants? 🌱 Be sure to disinfect all pots and trays you give away to make sure you don't pass along any invasives (like jumping worms and black swallow wort).

Take the guesswork out of recycling: Check RecycleSmartMA.org to see what goes in (and stays out of) your bin.

Create Mulched Beds for a Healthier Yard & Cleaner Waterways! 🌱🍂💧

Mulched planting beds do more than make your landscape look great—they help absorb rainwater, reduce soil erosion, suppress weeds, and keep excess sediment and nutrients out of storm drains.

By adding mulch around trees, shrubs, and garden beds, you’re helping rain soak into the ground where it belongs instead of becoming polluted runoff. Small landscaping choices can make a big difference for our local waterways!

Flushable” doesn’t always mean sewer-safe. Items like wipes, diapers, and hygiene products can clog pipes and damage sewer systems.

🔋 Don’t let used batteries become stormwater pollution.

Dry cell batteries may be small, but when tossed in the trash or left outdoors, they can leak metals and chemicals that may eventually make their way into our soil, storm drains, and local waterways.

Take a few extra minutes to recycle used batteries at an approved collection site or through your community’s household hazardous waste program. Proper disposal helps protect our environment—one battery at a time. 💧♻️
