Oxford Police Department Housing Division

Oxford Police Department Housing Division Oxford Housing Authority After OHA started our "clean-ups", we were fortunate enough to receive HUD Public Housing Drug Elimination Grants for 11 years.

Oxford Housing Authority's Community Policing Program began in 1989 as a joint effort between the Authority and Oxford Police Department to rid our public housing communities of serious drugs and drug related crime problems. The Community Policing Program was so successful that the Oxford Police Department made the public housing police officers a division within the Department. Today, the Public

Housing Division of the Oxford Police Department has three substations and five officers assigned to our five public housing communities. Our Community Policing Program, under the leadership of Captain Alan Ivy, has won awards and provided assistance to other Authorities interested in instituting a community policing program. Also in the public housing division are Agents John Dias, Marcus Wilson, Katherine Evans and Mo Zampella. The Oxford Housing Authority was organized in the late 1960s with the construction of the first multifamily housing complex in Oxford. The Authority has grown from those original 100 units to 312 units of rental housing scattered over 5 sites throughout the City. The Mayor, Board of Aldermen and citizens of Oxford strongly support the Oxford Housing Authority and the families we so proudly serve. As the City's slogan states, Oxford really is A Nice Place To Live. With a City population of about 13,132, Oxford is home to the University of Mississippi, which allows our citizens access to many cultural and educational opportunities. The City's school system is among the very best in the State of Mississippi with a Level 5 rating. The unemployment rate in Lafayette County has been the lowest in the State for many years. Having been named by numerous magazines and surveys as one of the top retirement sites in the nation, Oxford has many amenities, organizations and opportunities that enrich the lives of its citizenry. Oxford Housing Authority and the City of Oxford, Mississippi . . . truly Nice Places to Live.

A big thanks to some of the Ole Miss student volunteers for tutoring the kids at Riverside today. We hope to make this a weekly event all the way up to December.
The kids (ages 6 and up) will meet on Wednesdays at 4:30 at the Riverside substation.
Tutoring will also be done at Wayne Johnson on Thursdays at 4:30.
As long as there are kids participating I will do my best to continue this service!
