Thursday at 3:30pm , Oxford Fire was dispatched mutual aid to Beacon Falls for a working structure fire. Oxford Car 1, Car 2, Engine 42, Tanker 43 & Tanker 33 responded to the scene for water supply operations. Engine 42 was redirected to stand by at BHC to the cover town while they operated on scene. Tanker 43 and Tanker 33 operated for approx 1 hr before returning to service. Car 1 and Engine 42 remained at BHC for coverage.

Attached are some photos showing an example of what firehouse brotherhood means. A member of BHC had a flat tire while they responded to their firehouse for the call. Lt. Ceste and FF Muttick swapped out the flat tire and put the spare on so the member can continue on their day! Great job by all.

The Oxford Center Fire Department had the privilege of supporting the Connecticut Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics as it made its way through town. It was great to the Oxford Resident State Troopers and Oxford PD leading the charge, carrying the torch with pride and enthusiasm for such a meaningful cause.

Very sad news 💔 Sending our condolences to the McKeon Family. Please consider checking out the go fund me listed in the post to help support his family during this unexpected loss.

It is with our profound sadness to announce the passing of one of our own. Zak McKeon passed away this morning. Zak was a new addition to the QF family and was just voted in as a probationary member in May. He was extremely excited and very active in this short time with us. He was willing to learn and was always willing to jump into any task you asked of him. He was moving to be an incredible asset to the Quaker Farms Fire Co and the Oxford Fire Dept as a whole. We will miss him dearly. Forever in our hearts and prayers Zak.

Please see below for a GoFundMe page his family has setup for their unexpected expenses.

Last night Oxford Center Fire Company had our Tuesday night work session. Members were split up into groups to do dry hydrant testing throughout our district while others (including Chief 😉) cleaned hose from the structure fire the other morning and did some routine cleaning around the firehouse. The dry hydrant testing turned into a good training for some members to practice pumping. Job well done by all.

Earlier this morning, the Oxford Fire Department was dispatched for an automatic fire alarm on Willenbrock Road to a large manufacturing facility. Upon arrival heavy smoke was showing from the Charlie Delta corner. Car 1, first arriving unit, confirmed a working fire in a room on the charlie bravo corner of the building and immediately upgraded to a structure fire response. Engine 41 arrived on scene and their crew deployed an 1 3/4in line into the building as the driver tied into the hydrant. Crews made a quick knockdown. The fire was in a machine with chemical parts washing tanks located in a plating room. Firefighters had to switch to firefighting foam to extinguish the fire. The building sustained moderate damage in the plating room and smoke damage throughout the rest of the facility. Quick work by the fire department to save the building for the owner. We were assisted by the Seymour Fire Department for RIT, Southbury Fire Department for an Engine and crew to the Scene, Beacon Hose Company to Center fire station to standby and cover the Town of Oxford and Oxford EMS to provide rehab. DEEP was called to the scene because of the chemical condition, they gave an all clear so the building was turned over to the building owner. Great work by all parties on scene.

Units on scene: Cars 1,2&3, Engine 41, 31&51, Truck 46, Rescue 44, Oxford EMS, Seymour Rescue 12, and Southbury Engine 6.

Tonight the Oxford Fire Department along with Oxford EMS attended a department drill at the Towantic Energy power plant. There was a safety brief about the hazards that may be encountered when responding to calls at the power plant followed by a walk through to get everyone familiar with the grounds. Thank you to the managers who took the time out of their night to help ensure everyone’s safety while operating at the power plant.
