Job Opening: Highway Maintenance Worker
Town of Oxford, Maine – Highway Department

The Town of Oxford Highway Department is accepting applications for a full-time Maintenance Worker. This position involves the maintenance and upkeep of all town properties, including but not limited to:

Ball fields
Cemeteries
Public buildings
Key Responsibilities:

Lawn care (mowing, trimming, clearing brush, etc.)
Trash removal
General property maintenance
Snow removal operations
Highway Maintenance
Qualifications:

Experience in landscaping and general maintenance
Use of power tools and hand tools
Valid Class C driver’s license (required)
CDL Class B (preferred but not mandatory)

THOMSON LAKE WATER LEVEL UPDATE:

Just a reminder, the Oxford Public Works department is responsible for maintaining the water level
of Thompson Lake. We are aware that the level is currently high. To be specific, the water level is currently 7” higher than the summer level. After tomorrow’s storm (Saturday 5/10/25), it’s likely that the water level will be even higher. The Oxford Public Works department is monitoring the situation closely and we are doing all we can to lower the level. We’ve had a lot of rain recently which followed the rapid snow melt we had this spring which resulted in the water shed becoming saturated.

The Robison dam is currently open as much as we are allowed to open it at this time. Aside from Mother Nature, this is our only means to lower the lake level.

If you have floating or fixed dock systems currently in the water, we encourage you to take steps to minimize any problems that may arise due to the high water level. As far as the potential for shore erosion, we are aware that this could happen in places however it’s entirely out of our control.
