Well, our February training was such a success we had to put on another ARIDE class.
Bridging that gap between SFST and DRE is so critical, especially with the complexity of drug-impaired driving today.
It’s also impressive to see such a wide range of experience in the room—having veterans with 24 years of service learning alongside rookies creates a great dynamic for sharing street-level insights.
Kudos to the Oxford Township Police Department and the 18 area officers for putting in the work at the BCRTA building to keep their communities safer.

The Oxford Township Police Department would like to welcome officers from around Butler County, Hamilton County, and Greene County to our 2 day ARIDE training in the newly built BCRTA building in Oxford. Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) is designed to bridge the gap between standard field sobriety testing (SFST) and the more advanced Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) program. The course trains law enforcement officers to observe, identify, and articulate signs of impairment from drugs, alcohol, or a combination of both, with the goal of reducing impaired driving incidents and related crashes. These officers choose to increase their knowledge and skills to help keep our roadways safer. Thank you!

We want to give a big shout out to the Township road crew, Oxford road crew, BCEO, and ODOT for being out and doing what they can against winter storm Fern. They started their 2nd round a few hours ago, so give them room to do their work.
Thank you road teams, stay safe!

A special thank you to the Left Field Tavern in Oxford, OH, Walmart, and the many more supporters and donations from area businesses, churches, etc to help the City of Oxford put this on again. Oxford Police Department, Miami University Police Department (Ohio) and Oxford Township Police Department took part in The Shop with a Cop event, Wednesday the 17th of December and it was a great success and fun time. All the kids had a blast at dinner, meeting the officers, the police es**rt drive to Walmart, and of course shopping for presents. Even the officers had a fun time. We may or may not have sugared them up before returning them to their parents. Here are a few pictures of that night. Thank you again to all for making this happen.

We are happy to share that City of Fairfield Police Department is now part of the LOSS/DOSS team in Butler County. LOSS/DOSS stands for Local Outreach Su***de Survivors/Drug Overdose Survivor Support.

Their trained volunteers go to the scene of a su***de or drug overdose death to provide resources, support, and hope. The compassionate assistance that the team provides families begins at the time of bereavement and continues through follow-up support. This team serves families with a reassuring presence, resources, and compassion.

The Butler County Coroner’s Office and local police departments that participate in this program will determine if the situation is an appropriate case for the LOSS/DOSS team and will notify them to respond to the scene to assist the family and survivors. Along with Fairfield PD, current police agencies on board are the City of Oxford, Ohio - Division of Police, Oxford Township Police Department, and Fairfield Township Police Department. We thank these agencies for their support and participation in this important and meaningful endeavor.

* Envision Partnerships provides funding and oversight to LOSS/DOSS*

We all know community outreach and education has never been more important than it is currently here at Oxford Township Police Department. We operate with the highest level of honesty, professionalism, and integrity in all that we do - with our community, with the visitors to our community, and with our fellow law enforcement agencies.
The representative pictured below is Bob Becker with Law Publications and he will be in our community going business to business to get sponsorships for our community safety program.
This program gets awareness information and material into the hands of school aged children and senior citizens to warn them of many different risks and dangers involved with drugs and also keep them informed on various other important safety topics.
Thank you for your support.

Investing in Education and Leadership

Chief Patrick Piccioni and Major Jeffrey D. King recently attended the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Conference.

During the conference, they participated in specialized training sessions focused on police agencies similar in size to Oxford Township. Topics included grant opportunities and funding, leadership development, and investigative practices — all aimed at strengthening our department’s ability to serve the community with excellence and integrity.

Continuing education ensures that our leadership team stays informed, connected, and ready to bring the best practices back home to Oxford Township.
