Well, Ateneo’s visit to Owensboro has come to an end. They are to Iowa and the Chicago to perform before they head home to Czechia. The standoff from Settle was even more tearful than usual. Singing “My Okd Kentucky Home” in the parking lot emotional for choir as well as the host families.
Speaking of host families - they were the best this year! The sharing of information, things to do, extra gatherings, as well as opening their homes and hearts to the choir was Southern Hospitality at its best! The host family experience makes this exchange so much more than just another choir tour.
Ateneo brought joy everywhere they performed this week. 11 performances and a trunk or treat experience at Brescia was a lot in 6 days but they were amazing ambassadors of the Czech Republic. We look forward to hosting you again!
Owensboro, thank you for opening your hearts this week. The formal and informal interactions Ateneo experienced made their time here very special. Owensboro Airport, Owensboro Symphony Orchestra, Diane Earle, Bluegrass Museum, Mellow Mushroom, Settle Memorial United Methodist Church, Chick-Fil-A, Cynthia Jolly, Buc-ees (Smiths Grove), and the staff, students, and audiences at Settle Memorial, Kentucky Wesleyan College, Brescia University, Daviess County High School, Apollo High School, College View Middle School, Owensboro Middle School, and Lassiter Middle School please know what a positive impact you have made on the 25 members of Ateneo this week.
To the Board and Ambassadors of Owensboro Sister Cities and Regions - thank you for continuing to support our 30+ year connection with Olomouc.
Ateneo, you made the world a little smaller this week by sharing your passion for music with us. You will always have a home here in your new “Old Kentucky Home”.
