🤝❤️ Partnership in Action, Recovery in Motion ❤️🤝

A huge thank you to Time to Surrender in Elizabethtown for partnering with us to help change lives!

Today, because of their willingness to serve, not one but TWO St. Benedict's Shelter clients were able to take the next step in their recovery journey and enter substance abuse treatment. Not only did they make room for these men, but they personally came to Owensboro to pick them up and ensure they arrived safely.

Recovery takes courage, but it also takes people and organizations willing to extend a helping hand. We are incredibly grateful for the compassion, dedication, and servant-hearted ministry of Time to Surrender.

Please join us in praying for these two men as they begin this new chapter and work toward lasting recovery, healing, and hope.

Together, lives are being transformed. ❤️ :::

URGENT SHELTER NEEDS 🚨

St. Benedict's Shelter is currently extremely low on several of our everyday essentials. These are items we use every single day to care for the men staying at our shelter, and our supplies are running dangerously low.

Our most urgent needs are:
🧻 Toilet Paper
🧻 Paper Towels
🍽️ Paper Plates
☕ 8 oz. Styrofoam Cups
🥄 Plastic Spoons
🗑️ 33-Gallon Trash Bags
🥣 Cereal

If you're able to help, donations can be dropped off at the shelter during normal business hours. Whether it's one package or a cart full, every donation makes a difference and helps us continue providing a safe, clean, and supportive environment for the men we serve.

Please consider sharing this post to help us reach others in our community who may be willing to help.

Thank you for always showing up for St. Benedict's and for the men we serve. Your generosity changes lives every day. ❤️

🌟 Welcome to the Team, Melody Mourning! 🌟

St. Benedict's Shelter is excited to introduce our newest Case Manager, Melody Mourning!

Melody brings both professional experience and personal understanding to her role. Having experienced housing instability as a child, she understands firsthand the importance of consistency, dignity, and reliable support during difficult seasons. Her years as a hairstylist helped her develop the ability to connect with people from all walks of life, build trust, and truly listen to the stories behind the struggles.

As a mother, woman of faith, and active member of her church and community, Melody is passionate about serving others with compassion, integrity, and respect. She believes in meeting people where they are while helping them see where they can go.

When asked what our mission means to her, Melody shared:

"It means loving like Jesus. Meeting people right where they are while still believing in where they can go. It means showing compassion without judgment, offering dignity and support during difficult seasons, and helping people see that their story isn't over."

Melody is excited to build relationships with our guests, create an environment rooted in trust and encouragement, and help individuals take meaningful steps toward stability. Her approach is simple but powerful: making every person feel seen, valued, and worthy of support.

She reminds us that homelessness is often the result of trauma, mental illness, family breakdowns, or a lack of support, not a lack of effort. Her commitment to dignity-centered care reflects our belief that every person deserves respect, kindness, and a voice in their own journey.

One of Melody's guiding verses comes from Ezra 10:4:

"Rise up, take courage, and do it!"

Please join us in welcoming Melody to the St. Benedict's Shelter family! We are grateful for the compassion, faith, and servant heart she brings to our mission of helping our neighbors move from crisis to stability.

🎸 A Huge Thank You to Guitarists for Good! 🎸

Today, St. Benedict’s Men’s Shelter was blessed to receive two guitars from the incredible nonprofit organization, Guitarists for Good, based out of Raleigh, North Carolina. Michael drove these to us personally!

A few weeks ago, we applied for their program, and today these gifts arrived for the men we serve. Their mission deeply aligns with the healing-centered work we believe in:

“Guitarists for Good is a volunteer, 501(c)(3) charitable organization that shares its love of music by giving the gift of guitars, with a focus on those places serving the temporarily homeless in our communities. We find that the healing power of music offers peace of mind, the ability to cope with struggles, and comfort during a shelter stay.”

Music has a way of bringing hope, peace, expression, and connection during difficult seasons of life. We are incredibly grateful for this thoughtful donation and the opportunity it creates for our clients.

Thank you, Guitarists for Good, for investing in dignity, healing, and hope through music. 🎶❤️

🎉 Big things are happening at St. Benedict’s, and we are incredibly proud of Harley and the hard work he has put in during his time here.

When Harley came to the shelter, he made the decision to push forward instead of giving up, and he has been doing exactly that ever since. 💪

Not only has he earned his GED, but he has also been participating in the Goodwill program, putting in training hours and building skills to prepare for his future. And now, as of yesterday, Harley officially became a full-time college student at OCTC in the Industrial Maintenance Technology program! 👏🎓

This is what determination looks like. This is what happens when someone chooses growth, stays focused, and keeps showing up day after day.

Harley, we are proud of you and excited to see where this journey takes you. Keep climbing, your future is wide open. 🔧📚

This morning, our Executive Director had the honor of speaking at BridgePointe Church as we continue building an exciting partnership together. Over the next two months, we will be collaborating on local mission opportunities across 12 facilities, serving both St. Benedict’s Shelter and the Daniel Pitino Shelter. These efforts will include service projects, Bible studies, prayer groups, outreach activities, and many other opportunities to serve our community together as this unfolds.

We truly believe that we are all called to be the hands and feet of Jesus, and it takes all of us working together to make a lasting impact. Our churches, volunteers, and community partners are such an important part of this mission, and we simply could not do it without you.

If your church, small group, or organization would like to get involved, partner with us, volunteer, or invite us to come speak, we would love to connect with you.

Together, we can continue bringing hope, dignity, faith, and support to those who need it most.

Hard Work. Hope. A Home. 🔑

At the end of January, Antoyne came to St. Benedict’s Shelter ready for change.

From the beginning, he hit the ground running. He searched for work, stayed focused, and refused to give up, even when finding a job took longer than he hoped. After about a month of pushing forward, Antoyne found employment and has consistently kept that job.

Throughout his time here, Antoyne stayed respectful, responsible, and committed to his goals. He asked for help when he needed it, used the resources available to him, and did the hard work to move his life forward.

And today, we are proud to share that Antoyne has the keys to his very own apartment. 🏠🔑

This is what hope, hard work, and determination look like. Congratulations, Antoyne, we are so proud of you!

We had a group of seniors from Daviess County High School come serve at St. Benedict's Homeless Shelter, and they were an absolute blessing.

These kids didn’t complain, didn’t stand around, and didn’t look for the easy jobs. They jumped right in and helped organize our pantry, clothing closet, supply closet, and shed. They even bought mulch and spread it around the property to help make the shelter look better for our clients.

What touched me most was seeing them work with such good attitudes and willing hearts. That kind of character says a lot about this next generation.

From all of us at St. Benedict’s, thank you. You made a difference today, and I pray you carry those servant hearts with you wherever life takes you.

“And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord…” — Colossians 3:23 ❤️
