UPDATE @ 9:05 AM: the roadway will periodically be closed over the next hour for clean up and removal. Expect delays or avoid the area.

UPDATE @ 8:10 AM: The roadway is now back open.

DCSO and Daviess County Fire Department are currently working an accident with possible injuries in the 8000 blk of Hwy 56 near HWY 456. A dump truck has turned over. Traffic is currently reduced one lane. Expect delays and avoid the area if possible while crews work to get the roadway back open.

🚨UPDATE: September 5, 2026 8:15 PM - Officers have cleared the scene and the roadway is now open.🚨

The Owensboro Police Department Accident Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating an injury collision at the intersection of W. Parrish Avenue and Carter Road.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area and seek an alternate route while first responders investigate the collision.

Please use caution and expect traffic delays in the area. We appreciate your patience and cooperation.

Official Statement from the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office:

At approximately 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 2, Daviess County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a request for assistance from the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office involving an armed male subject.

The subject had reportedly shot a woman and abducted her adult daughter from a residence in Ohio County. When Daviess County deputies encountered the subject, a vehicle pursuit was initiated. The pursuit ended in the 9700 block of Morgantown Road, where the subject exited the vehicle armed with a handgun and was shot by law enforcement.

The woman who was shot at the Ohio County residence was transported by air to University of Louisville Hospital in critical condition. The abducted woman was located deceased from a gunshot wound inside the subject’s vehicle.

The Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team is leading the investigation into the officer-involved shooting. The Daviess County Coroner’s Office is investigating the deaths.

No Daviess County Sheriff’s Office deputies or other civilians were injured during the incident. Our thoughts are with those impacted by this tragic incident.

We also thank the Daviess County Fire Department, Daviess County Public Safety, Daviess County EMA, Kentucky State Police, Whitesville Fire Department, Ohio County Sheriff’s Office, AMR Ambulance Service, Daviess County Coroner’s Office, Owensboro-Daviess County Central Dispatch, and Ohio County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch for their assistance throughout the incident.

We want to specifically recognize and thank the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office deputies who responded to this incident for their professionalism, courage, and dedication.

🚨UPDATE: September 1, 2026, 3:15 PM - Officers have cleared the scene and traffic has resumed normally. 🚨

The Owensboro Police Department is currently working a traffic accident in the area of E. 4th Street and J R Miller Blvd.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible and use an alternate route. Expect traffic delays and congestion while officers work the scene.

Please slow down, use caution, and follow the directions of officers on scene.
