OWEGO POLICE PRESS RELEASE
Arrest of Burglary Suspect
06 – 13 – 2026



On Saturday, June 13th, 2025 at approximately 1:30 PM the Owego Police Department was dispatched to Owego EZ Mart at 2 W Main St for a report of a Robbery.
During this investigation it was determined that a male, later identified as Shawn R Fosdal, 46 years old of Owego NY, had entered the business and threatened the store clerk with a knife. Fosdal then stole numerous items and fled the business.
Owego Police, Tioga County Sheriff, its Drone Team and NYS Police searched for the suspect. Fosdal was eventually apprehended without incident.

Shawn R Fosdal, 46, of Owego NY, was arraigned at the Tioga County Centralized Arraignment Court and remanded to Tioga County Jail on a $100,000.00 Cash or $200,000.00 Bail Bond.

Burglary in the First Degree Class B Felony
Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree Class D Felony

Additionally on June 12, 2026, Fosdal was arrested for Petit Larceny (Misdemeanor) at the same business. About 06:25 AM, Owego Police Officers responded to Owego EZ Mart for Shoplifting. Officers apprehended Fosdal several minutes later. Due to only the Misdemeanor level charge, he was issued a Appearance Ticket returnable to Village of Owego Court.
During this investigation it was determined that Fosdal was also responsible for Burglary at the Owego EZ Mart on June 4th, 2026, where he broke the front door of the Business. Fosdal was arrested for Burglary in the Third Degree (Felony) and Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree (Felony). Due to New York State Bail Reform and the ‘low level’ Felony charge, Fosdal was issued Appearance Tickets returnable to Village of Owego Court.

Johnnathan S Thompson, 32, Horseheads NY, was arrested for Fugitive from Justice Warrant (Felony) issued by Potter County, State of Pennsylvania and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree (Misdemeanor), following a Traffic Stop on Central Avenue. Thompson was turned over to Tioga County Sheriff’s custody for arraignment at Tioga County Centralized Arraignment Court and held for State of Pennsylvania on the Warrant.

Jayden J Beers, 19, Newark Valley NY, was arrested for Bench Warrant issued by Village of Owego Court for Failure to Appear on Obstructing Governmental Administration in the Second Degree (Misdemeanor). Beers was turned over to Tioga County Sheriff’s custody for arraignment at Tioga County Centralized Arraignment Court and Released on her Own Recognizance pending further court proceedings.

Fosdal was issued Appearance Tickets returnable to Village of Owego Court.

Carly A Thompson, 51, Nichols NY, was arrested for Criminal Possession of Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree (Misdemeanor), Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the Second Degree (Misdemeanor) and Uninspected Motor Vehicle (Violation), following a Traffic Stop on Main Street. Thompson was issued Appearance Tickets returnable to Village of Owego Court.

Fosdal was arraigned at Tioga County Centralized Arraignment Court and remanded to Tioga County Jail on $100,000 Cash Bail or $200,000 Bail Bond.

PRESS RELEASE – Strawberry Festival 2026

The Village of Owego will be hosting the annual Strawberry Festival starting on Friday, June 19th, 2026 and continuing through the day on Saturday, June 20th, 2026.

During parts of the festival some streets will be closed and detours will be in place.

There will be a street fair on Friday, June 19th, 2026 starting at 5:00 p.m. and Fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. Visitors and residents should be aware that the following streets will be closed starting at 2:00 p.m. for set up:

Lake Street between Main Street and Front Street
Front Street between Paige Street and Parkers Lane
Court and Park Streets between Main St. and Front St. will close at 5:00 p.m.

At 2:00 p.m. Church Street between Main Street and Front Street will close.

At 9:00 p.m. Front Street at Academy Street will close until the conclusion of the fireworks.

No on-street parking will be allowed in the above listed area.

Fireworks are scheduled to start at 9:30 p.m. At 9:15 p.m. the Court Street Bridge and Front Street from Court Street to Academy Street will be closed to all traffic until conclusion of the festival.

Additional street closings, detours and traffic patterns will take place on Saturday, June 20th, 2026 beginning at 5:00 a.m. and continuing throughout the day.

Persons should seek alternate route to avoid delays.
