The annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony is being held at Hickories Park at 8am on 9/11. OFD Members - please be at Station #2 by 7:45am so we can travel over together. Please wear your class A uniforms if you have one; otherwise wear OFD apparel. Thanks to everyone who can attend as we come together to remember and honor those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

We honored Lt. Gavin’s LODD tonight at his gravesite. Never forgotten.

In Memoriam: September 2, 2003 - LODD
Fire Lieutenant Stephen Gavin, 52
Owego Fire Department. NY
Lieutenant Gavin and the members of his fire department were fighting a fire in a local lumberyard. Lieutenant Gavin was in the process of doing overhaul after spending the preceding hour engaged in direct fire suppression. The weather was hot and humid. Lieutenant Gavin complained of exhaustion and chest pain. He was treated by EMS workers on the scene and transported to the hospital. He suffered a heart attack and survived until September 2, 2003, when he died of complications of the heart attack.

Today we es**rt Past Chief Ed Bidwell to his final resting spot. Estimate around 11am. Please be kind and compassionate as we do our final farewell es**rt through the village of Owego to Chapel Hill Cemetery, Candor. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Funeral Arrangements

The family will receive friends on Monday, August 17, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. During calling hours, the Owego Fire Department will honor Chief Bidwell with a fire service honor guard.

Members who have a Class A uniform and are available to participate in the honor guard are asked to meet outside the funeral home on Monday at 3:30 p.m. Additional instructions and assignments will be provided at that time.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park Street, Owego. Following the service, a firefighter funeral procession will accompany Chief Bidwell to his final resting place at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Candor.

Please keep the Bidwell family in your thoughts as we come together as a department to honor the life, service, and legacy of Past Chief Ed Bidwell.

Today kicks of the Tioga County Fair at Marvin Park. You can find us at the Matt Porcari Memorial Pavilion where we will be selling subs, soda, water and 50/50 tickets on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday - all proceeds help us fund our Fire Training Facility. Be sure to check out the Fair and stop by and grab a sub. Thanks for your continued support.

Village of Owego building & grounds flags will be at half staff until next Tuesday after the services at OFD for past chief Bidwell. An amazing man who has done so much for our village and community.

It is with great sadness that the Owego Fire Department announces the passing of Life Member and two-time Past Chief Ed Bidwell.

Chief Bidwell dedicated many years of his life to the Owego Fire Department and to serving the Owego community. His commitment to the fire service, his leadership as Chief, and his many years of service as a member of our department leave a lasting legacy.

Ed was more than a Past Chief—he was part of the history and tradition of the Owego Fire Department. The knowledge, friendships, and memories he shared with generations of firefighters will not be forgotten.

We extend our deepest condolences to Ed’s family, friends, and fellow members during this difficult time.

Thank you, Chief Bidwell, for your dedication, leadership, and service to our department and our community.
