Hello 4-H Families,

We are currently in need of additional evaluators for our public presentations event on Saturday February 20th here at the Tioga County Office Building. If you or someone you know is available to help please let me (Autumn) know ASAP. Don’t worry if you have not done this before, I will pair you with an experienced evaluator to help you through the day. This is a fantastic program for all our youth to learn and grow. Please consider volunteering to help. This would also count as a parent commitment if you need it.

Thank you and have a great weekend.

POULTRY PROJECTS
Hello Poultry raisers! We know that this year, due to the poultry ban, you are a bit disappointed. We, the office, clubs and the Animal Science, have come up with some ideas to fill the poultry area and give you a change to show off your hard work.

1. We will still hold a poultry showmanship exhibition. No birds will be involved, but you will still dress in show attire and meet with the Judge to talk about your bird. A registration link will be posted on the website soon.
2. All Poultry youth are highly encouraged to create a poster(s) containing a picture(s) and information about your bird(s) that you would have shown and have them on display in the poultry building. These posters can be registered and evaluated as Youth Building Exhibits if you choose and would be State Fair Eligible. The 4-H office is willing to take submitted photos and “blow them up” to a larger size for use in a poultry display.
3. The poultry area will host a number of activities that all poultry youth are expected to assist with (other animal exhibitors are welcome to join in):
a. Coloring Contest
b. Story hour
c. Demonstration Videos/ live action
d. Carnival type games
e. Poultry knowledge contest
f. Any youth would be welcome to Join Autumn in wearing promotional costumes to hand out information.
4. Meat Birds - The plan for selling your birds at auction is as follows. You should create a display for the county fair and plan to spend some time there promoting your product to the public. This could be in the form of posters, flyers, pictures, business cards, videos, or anything that will help in the sale of your product. You should also be contacting people to attend the auction. We do have brochures and buyers passes available in the 4-H office. Your birds will still be sold in lots of 5, but we will be using pictures in the auction ring. Please submit some photos to me of the birds during the week of the fair so that the office can make large pictures for this purpose. Unfortunately we will not be able to judge your birds for Grand or reserve status, but they will still be sold as a premium product. Please remember that the agreement with Bruce's Poultry is that birds must be sold at auction and for this year, because of the bio security measures we must take all birds sold at auction must go to our butcher, no one will be able to pick them up to take home and butcher. The office will soon have an online registration link for your birds and I will email that with instructions directly to you when it is ready. If you have any questions please let me know.

FOOD SAFETY TUTORIAL
A food safety tutorial will be available on our website tioga.cce.cornell.edu by Friday for all to review if you are working in the Clover Café or the Food Booth and Dairy Bar.

4-H CLUB REPORTS
The Berkshire Broncos 4-H Club members attended the Strawberry Festival on June 20 and marched in the parade. Special thanks to Anna Raymond's brother Ethan for being the “poop scooper”.

The Berkshire Broncos 4-H Club members made rope halters. This was a very challenging project and a lot harder than it looks. But, we worked together and figured it out even though it a long time. Thank you to the parents for helping.

inTENse, AN AGRICULTURAL CAREER EXPERIENCE
Students are invited to participate in inTENse, an agricultural career experience, on August 3-7, 2015. inTENse is a traveling conference designed to engage students entering or leaving the 10th grade in agricultural careers and college opportunities. As sophomores, students have identified passions and still have time to make choices in their high school coursework and extracurricular opportunities to more specifically direct themselves toward a strong college and career plan.

Students will stay on college campuses, participate in hands-on experiences in multiple agricultural career areas, travel to four New York agricultural college campuses and visit with several agricultural professionals. inTENse will expose student participants to agricultural trends and opportunities as well as provide some small group coaching for career and college decision making.

The 2015 inTENse conference has 100 open spots for students from FFA or non-FFA backgrounds. Registration is available online at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/in10se. The cost of the conference is $75 and is highly supported by a grant from the American Agriculturist Foundation and covers the cost of all conference meals, travel and 4 nights lodging.

Additional materials may be provided. Students must provide their own transportation from their home to the beginning and end locations of the conference. In addition to opportunities for student participants, inTENse will provide opportunities for 10 additional individuals.

4-H connects youth to hands-on learning opportunities that help them grow into competent, caring, contributing members of society.

Vision Statement
A world in which youth and adults learn, grow and work together as catalysts for positive change.

Please Plan Ahead: If you plan to stop into the 4-H Office please call ahead to see if either Jody or Autumn will be in at the time of your visit. We have very busy schedules and cannot be here every day but will try our best to make arrangements with you for your visit. If you need to pick up something, let us know ahead of time so that we can get what you need ready and can leave it at the front desk for you to pick up.

If you can’t get here during the day, you can drop off 4-H paperwork in the mail drop box. The mail drop box is on the Main St. side of the county office building at the top of the steps (right side facing the glass doors). Drop your paperwork, marked with our names, in the box. But, again, please call and let us know that you plan to leave something in the box. Also, do not leave money in the drop box. It is an unsecured box and many people pass through the county office building every day.

Club Leaders: If you would like to publish your club meeting dates, times and locations, please email the information to Jody before Tuesday of each week.

Club News Reporters: 4-H news reporters - - please send Jody monthly write-ups and pictures of your club activities. We would like to publish a quarterly 4-H Member Activities report to post to the wiki.
