Today, all firefighters who have died in the line of duty during the previous year are honored. It is a tradition for uniformed firefighters, the families of the fallen, and thousands of others to gather in front of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Emmitsburg, Maryland on this day. Many stations across the country will sound their sirens at noon to honor all fallen firefighters.
