On Friday evening, August 21, the community gathered at the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens for the dedication of a remarkable new work of public art: Growing Kindness, a larger-than-life stainless-steel sculpture inspired by the iconic poppy artwork of beloved Overland Park artist and philanthropist Jeff Hanson.

The dedication marked more than the unveiling of a beautiful new sculpture. It celebrated a young artist whose life was defined by creativity, generosity and an unwavering belief in the power of kindness – and a community coming together to carry that message forward. Free family fun is on the way tomorrow! 🌿🎨 July 7 • Free Admission Day + Discovery Day with nature-themed crafts, garden adventures, and a fun grass hair planter project for kids!

Parents, do you have a kid who loves crafts? Do they also love looking for frogs and pointing at pretty flowers?

We have both of these activities available on Tuesday. For free.

Join us for Free Admission Day AND Discovery Day at the Arboretum this Tuesday, July 7. Come for a morning of free crafts and stay for an afternoon of garden exploring.

Discovery Day activities begin at 9 a.m. Projects are available on a first-come, first-served basis to the first 100 participants. Projects are geared towards children ages 3-8 years. This month's project theme is grass hair planters.
