Beginning today, Friday, June 12, the right-turn lane on the northbound Market Street Bridge will be temporarily closed to support ongoing construction of the Inclusive Play Space.

The closure is expected to last approximately one week, weather permitting. Drivers in the area are encouraged to plan accordingly and exercise caution near the work zone.

Due to recent storm activity, some buildings in the Ottumwa Regional Airport area may experience brief water service interruptions. All available Ottumwa Water Works staff are currently on-site working to restore normal service as quickly as possible.

⚠️ Landfill Closure – Severe Weather

The Ottumwa/Wapello County Landfill is closed today due to severe storms. The facility will reopen once conditions are safe.

Beginning today, Wednesday June 10, 2026, a short portion of the bike trail on South Emma Drive will be closed. This closure is due to construction at the Walnut lift station and only affects the area east of Sandy Lane. Weather permitting the trail should be open by end of day Friday, June 12, 2026. As a reminder, the bike trail is strictly for walkers, bicyclists, and non-motorized vehicles. Fines may be issued to individuals using motorized vehicles on the trail or on the levee itself.

☀️ Beat the Heat!

Temperatures are climbing, and your body is feeling it whether you realize it or not. By the time you feel thirsty, you're already behind on fluids.

Here are a few simple reminders to stay safe in the heat:
💧 Drink water consistently throughout the day — don't wait until you're thirsty.
🧴 Avoid excessive caffeine and alcohol, which can accelerate dehydration.
👕 Wear light, loose-fitting clothing and limit strenuous activity during peak heat hours (typically 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.).
🌡️ Watch for warning signs of heat exhaustion: heavy sweating, dizziness, nausea, and muscle cramps.
🚨 Heat stroke is a medical emergency. Call 911 if someone stops sweating, becomes confused, or loses consciousness.

🎶 This Thursday, the Ottumwa Municipal Band returns to Central Park for its second concert of the 2026 season!

The theme this week is "Wine, Women, & Song" — a salute to the ladies in our lives.

Featured vocalist Dr. Christine Bergen will perform selections from Lerner and Loewe's beloved musical, My Fair Lady.

📍 Central Park | 🕖 7:00 p.m. | 📅 Thursday

Bring your lawn chairs or a blanket and enjoy a free evening of live music under the summer sky. Concerts continue every Thursday evening through June and July.

⛈️ In case of inclement weather, the concert moves to Liberty School.
