23 years ago, Putnam County signed a proclamation making us one of the first counties in Ohio to offer Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

For the past 23 years, we’ve continued to build on that partnership, watching countless local children receive books, develop a love of reading, and eventually graduate from the program.

Today, more than 1,330 Putnam County children are enrolled and receiving a new book every single month.

With Dolly’s recent passing, we’re reminded even more of the incredible legacy she created through this program. Her gift to children and families reaches far beyond the pages of a book.

As a local program partner, we are honored to continue carrying that gift forward.

Hello, United Way friends!

It’s Ashley, your United Way Executive Director, stopping in to say… WE OFFICIALLY MOVED!

Today is our first full day operating out of our new home at 1225 East Third Street!

There are still a few boxes to unpack and a few things to get settled, but we are officially up and running and SO excited for this next chapter.

We are ready to continue carrying out our mission, one initiative at a time, and continuing to serve our community in every way we can.

Thank you for continuing to support United Way of Putnam County. We couldn’t do what we do without you! ❤️

What an AMAZING MOVING CREW! 📦💪🏼

A huge THANK YOU to Putnam County Community Thrift Store for allowing us to utilize the box truck! Because of that, this crew was able to get everything loaded up and moved to 1225 East Third Street in ONE trip!

We are slowly but surely getting settled in! We still have a few finishing touches to take care of, but it’s all coming together and we couldn’t be more excited about our new space.

We will officially be up and running at our new location Monday, August 31st!

So grateful for our amazing volunteers and everyone who has helped make this move happen.

We truly couldn’t do it without our community! ❤️

Dolly meant so much to so many different people around the world — entertainer, songwriter, businesswoman, philanthropist, friend and inspiration. And to many, she was known as "the Book Lady."

Inspired by her father who could not read or write, Dolly created her book gifting program, Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, so children could develop their own love of reading.

Dolly's program has mailed over 330 million books to children, and nearly 28 million have been sent to children in Ohio. Her legacy will continue to live on through this program and these books.

There are more children to reach. More books to send. More families to bring into this wonderful community "the Book Lady" created.

The greatest tribute you can give Dolly is to keep it going — together.

In lieu of flowers, Dolly's family asks for donations to be made to her Imagination Library program, so children can continue to experience the excitement of receiving a book in the mail each month.

We officially have freshly painted walls!

The building and our new space are looking more and more refreshed, and we are LOVING watching it all come together!

A huge THANK YOU to Ottawa Paint & Interiors for helping us get all of our paint ready for our big paint day! Your support means so much to us. 💙

And to our amazing volunteers who showed up today and got their paint on, we truly couldn’t do this without you!

The Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a huge part of what we do here at United Way of Putnam County.

Today, we join so many others in mourning the loss of Dolly Parton and celebrating the incredible legacy she leaves behind.

Through the Imagination Library, Dolly created something truly remarkable, an opportunity for children to receive books of their very own and develop a love of reading from an early age. Her vision has reached children and families all over the world, including right here in Putnam County.

We are honored to help carry that vision forward in our community and to play a small part in something that has made such a tremendous impact on generations of children.

Dolly’s legacy isn't just in the music she made or the lives she touched, it’s in the children who will grow up loving books because she believed they deserved them.

Thank you, Dolly, for giving us a mission worth continuing.

Peep our progress! 👀

The new United Way of Putnam County office is starting to look like home!

With just one week until our official move, things are moving quickly. The front of the building has been cleaned up, our address numbers have gotten a fresh coat of paint, edging is underway in preparation for paint day, and our United Way sign is officially up on the building!

It’s exciting to watch this space transform little by little, and even more exciting to think about all that will happen here.

We’re getting closer every day, and we can’t wait to welcome our community through the doors! 💙
