T Minus 87 Days
The Calhoun County Red White Blue Foundation is counting down the days until The Wall That Heals arrives in Southwest Michigan! The mission of The Wall That Heals is to honor and remember those who served in the Vietnam War by bringing a traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and a mobile Education Center to communities across the nation, offering healing, reflection, and education to all who visit.
We are proud to host The Wall That Heals from August 20-23, 2026 at the soccer field complex located at Harper Creek High School! Follow our page and visit our website to learn more about this incredible project and receive updates as we prepare for its arrival! In the meantime, we're honoring and remembering the service of 100 local veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Vietnam War. We will honor and remember a local Vietnam Veteran from Southwest Michigan every single day leading up to this event - when The Wall That Heals finally arrives and is assembled at Harper Creek High School in Battle Creek, Michigan.
Today we're honoring and remembering Marine Lance Corporal John Benedict Nahan III.
John Nahan III was born on 20 June 1945. His enlistment records indicate that his home of record was the City of Allegan in Allegan County. He enlisted in the Marine Corps, and his military occupation or specialty was 0311 Rifleman where he was attached to 2nd Platoon, Alpha Company, 3rd Recon Battalion, 3rd Marine Division.
Lance Corporal John Nahan III was serving his country during the Vietnam War when he gave his all in the line of duty. During his service in the Vietnam War, Lance Corporal John Nahan III experienced a traumatic event involving a helicopter crash which ultimately resulted in the loss of his life on 03 August 1967. Military records indicate that his helicopter crashed in the Thua Thien Province in South Vietnam. His remains were not identified until 1994 and was later repatriated to the United States.
Our nation and community can NEVER repay the debt owed to the loss of Lance Corporal John Nahan III, but we can ALWAYS remember and honor him. His courage, his sacrifice, and his service to our nation will never be forgotten.
He is one of the 58,281 names on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall. Please join us in August 2026 as we seek to reflect, heal, and educate our community with The Wall That Heals.
