There is a moment that never leaves you.
A baby animal shows up with no mother. Sometimes he’s still warm from her. Sometimes he’s cold, starving, hit by a car, or so small you can hold him in one hand. He doesn’t know why the world suddenly went silent. He only knows he is alone.
That is the moment we say yes.
We said yes to Frankie when he arrived paralyzed and in a coma. We said yes to Leo until he closed his eyes at 31 with Jim and Susan beside him. We say yes every morning when Amy, Jenny, Sonya, Randy, Kimmy and the others walk out of the den and wait for the people who have been their entire world for years.
Here is what most people never see.
There is no staff of twenty. Mostly it is all Susan. Jim and Kerry lend support where they can. There is a small circle of people who love these animals like family and a calendar of bills that does not care how much we love them. Food. Hay. Medical care when something goes wrong in the night. Repairs to enclosures. The next orphan who will arrive with no warning and no check attached.
One-time gifts save a week.
Monthly sponsors save the year.
When someone becomes a monthly donor, we can stop holding our breath. We can plan the next rescue instead of wondering whether we can afford the last one. We can look at an old bear and know he will eat tomorrow, and the month after that, and the winter after that.
If these animals have ever made you laugh, or cry, or feel less alone for three minutes on a hard day—this is how you stand with them when the camera is off.
Please become a monthly sponsor.
Any amount. Truly any amount. You can change it or stop it whenever you need to.
Go to orphanedwildlife.org/donate and choose monthly.
Please don’t scroll by. Please don’t say no.
They cannot ask you themselves.
We are asking for them.
We cannot do this without you.
We have never been able to.
