🚒 Mutual Aid Response – Sandisfield

At approximately 22:45, Otis Fire & Rescue, along with Monterey Fire were dispatched to a residence in Sandisfield for an odor of gas and reported smoke condition.

Otis E221, R223, A221, Monterey 172, and Monterey 177 responded with crews.

Fire crews arriving on scene reported a heavy propane odor both inside and outside of the residence. E221 arrived and Otis Car 1 was given command while Sandisfield Ambulance evaluated and cared for one patient.

Crews secured the propane supply to the residence and began ventilation operations. Firefighters entered the residence with gas meters.

After ventilation was completed and the residence was determined to be safe, crews cleared the scene and returned to service at 00:07.

We appreciate our neighboring departments and the crews who continue to answer the call when additional resources are needed. Sometimes the neighbors get called in. We’re always happy to help.

It’s not always chaos and calamity around the fire house. That’s the part that not everyone realizes.
Sometimes the guys need a break from training, from fundraising, from the calls.

August had been a busy month for Otis Fire & Ems both on the fire side and the ems side both call wise and everything else that comes with getting ready for our annual steak roast.

So last night instead of a bi-weekly drill, everyone was able to sit down and enjoy a meal together and just relax. Yes there was shop talk and recaps of how we did at the steak roast as well as an overview and discussion regarding the weekend incident however it’s important everyone had that time to just laugh and enjoy a meal!

We’d also like to extend deepest sympathies to the Cornwell Family on the passing of Micky, we are truly sorry for your loss.

Just a heads up for all as we know these are a popular fruit bar in a lot of house holds.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) is advising consumers and retailers
about a voluntary recall of select Outshine Fruit Bars because they may contain glass. The
recalled products were distributed to retailers nationwide and may have been sold in
Massachusetts.
Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream, Inc. issued the recall after receiving consumer reports of glass
in the product. No illnesses or injuries associated with the recalled products have been
reported as of August 18, 2026.

Consumers should check their freezers for recalled Outshine Fruit Bars. The recall includes
specific batches of the following products:
• Outshine Strawberry Fruit Bars, six-count package of 2.5-ounce bars

Well folks we’re tired, we’re sweaty, but our hearts are full from how much support we received. ❤️🚒

And just like that… that’s a wrap on the 2026 Otis Fire Steak Roast! 🥩🔥

We seriously cannot thank everyone enough for coming out and supporting us last night, Whether you bought a dinner ticket, entered a raffle, made a donation, helped out, or just showed up to hang out with us—we appreciate you more than you know.

A HUGE thank you to everyone who worked their butts off behind the scenes to make last night happen. It takes a lot of people, a lot of hours, and a whole lot of sweat 😂 and we’re lucky to have such an amazing group of people who always step up

Thank you to our families, who understand that not only the event but most of the week before takes us away from them while we are preparing, on top of us dropping everything when the tones go off.

Most importantly, thank you to our community. You continue to show up for us year after year, and we never take that for granted. ❤️

Now excuse us while we go put our feet up, eat some leftovers, and recover. 😂

Congratulations to Great Barrington Fire Department on their co****le victory today! While we were hosting our steak roast our neighboring towns were battling it out for bragging rights at corn hole!
Congratulations guys, maybe next year we will be able to challenge the champs!
