All fire departments across the county need help. We’ve heard all the excuses: I can’t commit to (fill in the blank), I’m not always available, I’m too young/old, I don’t know anything about it... those are just excuses.
We are all volunteers. We can when we can, and we can’t when we can’t.

This is an incredible job that pays you back in ways that aren’t money.
If you’ve ever thought about it, contact the Volunteer Fire Department in your community. The hardest part... walking through that station door the very first time.
We all live in the communities we serve. How can you make a difference?

Please be advised on the high risk of West Nile virus in our area and most of Kansas. If you have to do yard work try to use bug spray and wear sleeves and pants. Dump or drain any standing water.

Symptoms of WNV can range from mild to severe, and most people infected don't feel sick:
Mild disease
Also called West Nile fever, this can cause symptoms like:
Fever
Headache
Body aches
Sore throat
Lack of appetite
Nausea
Vomiting
Diarrhea
Rash
Swollen lymph glands

Severe disease
Also called West Nile encephalitis or meningitis, this can cause symptoms like:
Neck stiffness
Muscle weakness
Stupor
Disorientation
Tremors
Seizures
Paralysis
Coma
Confusion or change in ability to think clearly
