It was a busy and rewarding week supporting Law Enforcement Torch Run - Special Olympics New York!

On Thursday, our agency teamed up with Special Olympics New York for the annual "Law and Order" fundraiser at Texas Roadhouse. Officers partnered with athletes to help serve tables, engage with the community, and raise awareness for the incredible work of Special Olympics across New York State. We would like to thank everyone who came out to support this great cause, as well as Texas Roadhouse for hosting another successful event.

Then on Friday, members of the Oswego Police Department, Oswego County Sheriff's Office, Oswego County Regional Police Academy, Oswego State University Police, and Village of North Syracuse Police participated in the New York Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) held in Oswego. Together, we carried the "Flame of Hope" throughout the City of Oswego in support of Special Olympics athletes and their achievements.

The mission of the Law Enforcement Torch Run is to raise awareness and support for the Special Olympics movement, and we are proud to stand alongside our law enforcement partners and community members in helping make a difference.

Today, we pause to honor the brave members of the United States Armed Forces who gave their lives in service to our nation. We solemnly remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedoms. Their bravery, dedication, and selfless service will never be forgotten.

Let us reflect on their legacy with gratitude and appreciation for the liberties we enjoy because of their service.

Starting today, May 18th, through May 31st, the Oswego Police Department is joining law enforcement agencies across the state and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee for the Buckle Up New York Click It or Ticket high-visibility enforcement campaign.

Our officers will be out in full force participating in dedicated enforcement details. Why? Because we want to make sure everyone traveling on our community's roadways makes it home safely.

Here is what you need to know:

The Stakes are High: Crashes where occupants aren’t wearing seatbelts are 5 times more likely to result in serious injury.

The Reality: According to the NHTSA, approximately half of all passenger vehicle fatalities involve unrestrained occupants.

Increasing the use of seat belts and child safety restraints remains our most powerful tool in reducing crash-related injuries and fatalities. Whether you are driving down the block or across the state, in the front seat or the back seat, the message is clear: Buckle up every single time.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Coffee with a Cop at Khepera Coffee yesterday, and to Khepera Coffee for hosting us! ☕👮‍♂️

Our officers enjoyed the great conversations with members of our community and even stepped behind the counter to make coffees for customers.

It was a strong brew of great conversation, community connection, and a few learning moments behind the counter.

This morning we participated in a mock DWI crash hosted at the Oswego High School. An impactful event like this requires a massive team effort. We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the dedicated students and school staff of the Oswego City School District, Oswego Fire Department, Menter Ambulance, Oswego County STOP DWI Program, Oswego City Court, Oswego County District Attorney’s Office, and other community partners who helped make this happen.

Seeing a scene like this is heavy, but our goal is simple: we want the reality of impaired driving to hit home before anyone gets behind the wheel. We want these lessons to stick with students through prom, graduation, summer break, and for the rest of their lives.

To the Oswego High School students: Have an incredible, fun, and safe prom weekend! We are rooting for your future, and want to make sure you're there to see it. 💙

Yesterday, in consultation with the family of Joshua Barbour, the remaining items from the memorial on West Linear Park were respectfully removed. Memorial items have been collected and will be turned over to the family.

Moving forward, if any additional items are placed at the location, they will be collected and provided to the family.

We would like to advise the public that we will be conducting training in the area of E. 3rd St. / E. Oneida St. There is no threat to public safety during this training and they are controlled exercises. Thank you!

We’d like to take a moment to highlight the continued hard work and dedication of our officers in keeping our community safe.

Earlier this month, officers conducted a traffic stop resulting in a drug seizure. Thanks to the vigilance of our officers, a quantity of substance that presumptively tested positive for co***ne, U.S. currency, a digital scale, and other drug paraphernalia were seized.

This investigation reflects our ongoing commitment to proactive policing and removing dangerous substances from our neighborhoods.
