Bingo with a Side of Safety

Oswego Police Commander Andy Most joined Kendall County Sheriff's Office Undersheriff Bobby Richardson and Kendall County Board Chairman Matt Kellogg at the Oswego Senior Center to help call out bingo and spend some time with local seniors.

After bingo, the conversation shifted to safety, with Commander Most answering questions about internet safety and personal safety.

TRAFFIC TUESDAY: YELLOW DOESN’T MEAN “GO FASTER.”

Last week, we asked what was your biggest traffic pet peeve. One of the top answers was speeding up to beat the yellow light/going through the red🚦

So, naturally, we had to talk about it!
You’re approaching an intersection. The light turns yellow.
What do you do?
A. Hit the gas, you can make it!
B. Slam on the brakes, even though you’re already too close to safely stop!
C. Safely slow down and stop if you can.

The yellow light is there to give you a warning that the signal is about to turn red, not to give you permission to speed up.

So here’s the question to ask yourself:
“Am I trying to beat the light… or am I trying to make it home?”

As part of Hunt Club Elementary School's 9/11 remembrance, our officers were invited, along with members of the Oswego Fire Protection District, for lunch with students last Friday.

The invitation was simple: come have pizza, sit with the students, and have some real conversations. It was a great opportunity to spend time with the students outside of the usual police-business setting, answering questions, sharing a few laughs, and getting to know one another.

We appreciate Hunt Club for inviting our local first responders into the school and giving us the opportunity to connect with their students in such a meaningful way.

Thank you to everyone who came out yesterday for the Public Safety Cadets’ 9th Annual Car & Truck Show! From the amazing cars and trucks to the people who brought them, the sponsors who supported us, and everyone who stopped by to check things out , you helped make it a great day.
