1 Week Till Parade Day
The Ossining Volunteer Fire Department Annual Firefighters Parade is a week away! Not sure about you all, but one of our favorite days of the year. Granted we are pretty good at it by now, but months of preparation and planning go into this undertaking each year. The entire department is to thank for that, but we have to specifically thank the members of our parade committee that oversee it all.
So, the basics. Same route as usual, beginning at Roosevelt Square (Croton Avenue & Pleasantville Road) proceeding down Croton Ave crossing over Route 9 to Main St down to Secor Rd and over the train tracks to the waterfront. Localized Street closings at the beginning of the parade (Croton Ave, Campwoods Rd, Calam Ave, Sherman Pl, & Park Ave. areas) will begin at 6pm. Please be mindful that large fire apparatus will be maneuvering tight streets, if you can plan an alternate route. The parade begins promptly at 7pm.
Spectators, plenty of prime locations to view. We have to give a shout out to Mike Risko Music School for being one of the best spots in town! Get there early, consider grabbing some dinner prior at one of our many local establishments or plan for after. Croton Avenue will begin being closed to vehicle traffic prior to the parade beginning, get your spot early. Granted it’s a week away, but the weather is looking promising not like last years torrential downpours. But hey, it still went on without any hiccups that’s how we do.
Participating agencies & units in the parade, you should have received your line-up locations and information via email at this point. If you happened to have not, or you’ve been planning on attending and have not heard from us, reach out! Line-up begins at 6pm. Our neighbors in the areas of line-up have been notified like every year of what to expect. We have a great relationship with our neighbors and this is an event we all look forward to, please keep them in mind when lining up. Please keep your line-up areas clean and be mindful of their residences. We do the best we can to make everyone made aware of the days progression and plans. For marchers looking to park at the end of the route (the waterfront) we will have shuttle buses available beginning at 5pm, they will be loading at the Ossining Boat & Canoe Club. These will bring you up to the area of line-up. As units approach the end of the parade, if any apparatus are not staying till the conclusion of parade or for refreshments after; you are to break off prior to going over the train tracks at the bottom of Secor Rd. There will be Fire Department personnel there to make sure you’re aware of where to do this. Trophy results & awarding we aim each year to have by 930pm. At line-up, if any questions arise please make contact with a parade marshal.
As in the many years past, we look forward to a great night of fun for all and a chance for us to show our community how proud we are to call ourselves the OFD. We are eager to welcome all our participating agencies to our village and hope you all enjoy yourselves.
Any questions, please feel free to contact us here via message or via our website.
