Important Update on Jefferson Township Fire Protection
I appreciate the Wells County Republican Party for publicly supporting the urgent need for action on the Jefferson Township fire protection agreement and for calling on the remaining Advisory Board members to either fulfill their responsibility to the public or step aside.
I also want to thank the President of the Wells County Commissioners, the President of the Wells County Council, and the Mayor of Bluffton for their leadership and support of my continued efforts to secure a fire protection agreement for the residents of Jefferson Township.
Additionally, I appreciate the Town of Ossian—especially the President and Vice President of the Town Council—for the extensive work they have done to negotiate and present an agreement that is equitable, reasonable, and fiscally responsible for taxpayers in both Ossian and Jefferson Township.
Over the past several days, I have been in more communication with Tim Baker than at any point during our time serving together. It is unfortunate that he chose to resign rather than take action to ensure fire protection for Jefferson Township residents.
I have reached out multiple times to David Haiflich and have not received a response. Because of the seriousness of this situation and the imminent loss of fire protection coverage, I have called a special session of the Jefferson Township Advisory Board for Wednesday, December 24 at 6:00 p.m. at the Jefferson Township Office. I sincerely hope Mr. Haiflich attends and does what is right for the residents he was elected to serve.
This situation is real and immediate. Without action, Jefferson Township will have no guaranteed fire protection coverage. As Trustee, my responsibility is to protect the safety and welfare of our residents, and I will continue to pursue every lawful and reasonable option to do so.
Our residents deserve leadership, accountability, and action.
