Mahaska Safe Kids

Mahaska Safe Kids Preventing Child Abuse Is Everyone's Responsibility Mahaska Safe Kids provides what is called the "Third Dose" of the program.

Our current program, The Period of Purple Crying Program, is being promoted in collaboration with Mahaska Health Parthership's Public Health Department. According to the National Center on Shaken Baby Syndrome, infant crying is the number one trigger for shaken baby syndrome incidents. The Period of Purple Crying Program is introduced to families with the birth of a new baby and is reinforced by p

rograms such as the visiting nurses program, Parents as Teachers, Helping Hands and other such programs that work with families in the home. We present the program to clubs, service groups, parent groups, and any other community members that might want to know how they can use the Period of Purple Crying program to help support those with crying infants.
