Members from Mahaska County 911 Communications and Mahaska County Sheriff's Office are undertaking a 2-day training to learn about coordinated responses to large scale incidents. More than 10 agencies are training together to build capabilities.

[12:55 PM 4/17/26] Here's the timeline for severe weather today. An initial round of storms could develop across southern Iowa early on, but the main severe threat for central Iowa comes as a cold front pushes across the state. All severe weather hazards - large hail, damaging winds, and a tornado or two are possible.
