OPM invites you to submit photos for the museum’s 2026 Día de los Mu***os community ofrenda. You may drop off photos at the museum or email them to our Visitor Engagement Coordinator at [email protected].

An ofrenda is a traditional altar that welcomes and honors the spirits of deceased loved ones. Día de los Mu***os is a joyful celebration of life and remembrance—a welcoming bridge between families and those who have passed. Common items on an ofrenda include bright marigolds, whose color and fragrance are believed to help guide spirits home; photos of loved ones, placed to honor and invite their presence; and food and beverages offered to nourish returning souls after their journey.

Join us at OPM on Saturday, October 24, 2026, for this year’s Día de los Mu***os celebration!

Hispanic Heritage Month, observed September 15–October 15, celebrates the history, diverse cultures, achievements, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities.

This year, OPM partnered with the UWO Chicana/o & Latinx Studies Program to curate Crowned in Tradition: Quinceañeras in Wisconsin. This meaningful collaboration connected us with former quinceañeras and their families, who generously loaned beautiful dresses and other items from their celebrations for the exhibit.

Following the exhibit, participants and exhibit committee members Ashley and Leslie Patiño generously donated their dresses and crowns to the Museum. Now part of our permanent collection, these items will be preserved to help share our community’s stories for generations to come.

Thank you, Ashley and Leslie!
