Informational Update 07-08-19
Response from Jeremy Williamson, Water Quality Specialist for
Polk County Land & Water Resources Department:

I surveyed the watershed this afternoon and saw no evidence of any sort of breach from a beaver dam or otherwise on 75th Avenue. There was evidence of high water flow near Big Lake Drive. You are most likely seeing the effects of a strong hysteresis that can often be seen in hydrologic systems like drainage lakes. The physical flow of water in a stream will often lag behind the effects of precipitation. This is probably due to sub-surface flow and eventual discharge into the stream and lakes. It is really unlikely that a beaver dam would have enough water behind it to cause that kind of lake level change. Along with increased runoff and subsurface flow there could be an increase in groundwater in the system because of the wet spring and summer that we have had so far. Simply put, there is a lag between flow/lake level and precipitation and the associated increase in groundwater input.

Due to high water causing shoreline erosion and boating hazards due to potential floating debris, Slow No Wake is recommended lake-wide on all three lakes until further notice.

Thanks for helping to protect our shoreline!
