Board Member Spotlight: Dr. John DeSpain 🙌🏼❤️

Dr. John DeSpain is a board-certified dermatologist and dermatopathologist with more than 35 years of experience. He currently practices at Forefront Dermatology in Osage Beach, Missouri. After spending many years enjoying a vacation home at the Lake of the Ozarks, he and his wife, Darla, made Lake Ozark their full-time home in 2023. 🏠

John and Darla have been happily married for 10 years and are proud of their blended family, which includes John’s two adult daughters and Darla’s five sons. Outside of his professional life, John enjoys staying active through golf, fitness, bicycling, boating, and fly fishing. He also has a passion for cooking and spending time with family and friends.

A dedicated community leader, Dr. DeSpain has been actively involved in service and philanthropy for more than 30 years. A member of Rotary since 1995, he has served communities in Columbia, Jefferson City, and now the Lake of the Ozarks. His leadership experience also includes serving on two regional United Way boards and twice holding the position of President of the Missouri Dermatologic Society.

John and his family have long supported charitable causes through both financial contributions and volunteerism. Most recently, he has become involved with the Osage Beach Senior Center, where he volunteers by delivering meals to homebound seniors and looks forward to expanding his hands-on community service efforts.

Dr. DeSpain is honored to serve on the Board of Directors for the Community Foundation of the Lake and is excited to help advance its mission of strengthening and supporting the Lake area community.

Through a donor-advised fund held with the Community Foundation of the Lake, Scott’s Concrete is making a lasting impact on our community and helping create memorable experiences for local families and trail users.

This generous gift is a wonderful example of how donor-advised funds can be used to support meaningful community projects and bring people together. We are grateful for partners like Scott’s Concrete who invest in making the Lake area an even better place to live, work, and play. Especially for the children within in our community. 👍

✨ Board Member Spotlight ✨

Dexter Whitney is a seasoned hospitality executive with more than 50 years of industry experience, most recently serving as General Manager of Old Kinderhook Resort. Throughout his distinguished career, he has played a key role in hotel and resort operations, staff development, marketing strategy, and financial management. 🙌🏼🙌🏼

He was selected to serve on the Corporate S.W.A.T. team for Great Wolf Resorts, assisting with the successful launch of new resort properties. Dexter also contributed to the opening of three Hyatt Hotels & Resorts locations, including the Hyatt Regency Kansas City.

Known for his leadership and strategic vision, Dexter has led numerous marketing initiatives, collaborating with a variety of media outlets and overseeing digital marketing campaigns and market analysis efforts. He has also developed and implemented effective cost-control procedures that improved operational efficiency and increased profitability.

In addition, Dexter has extensive experience in recruiting, mentoring, and training employees through large-scale hiring events for new resort openings. His expertise in budgeting and financial oversight has been instrumental in ensuring the long-term success and profitability of full-service resort operations. 🤩
